I used PP services back in my 20's also.  But read the Democrat party platform. No restrictions whatsoever. None. It's rather shocking. Most European countries restrict to 20 weeks (maybe that is wrong...I recently read it in passing).  Even most Americans who are pro-choice favor some restrictions.  It has gotten insane. And that's not a hyperbolic word for it either.

Norplant for all. Figure out a stick to encourage it's use, one that can't be demagoged or puppy-eyed to death.. fat 'effing chance... and give it a whirl. One abortion per head, for those who somehow screw up.

I was wrong earlier. It was NYC, not DC - think DC rolled past the good taste mark a while back.

Just yesterday, a friend from high school posted something on FB basically suggesting that opinions aren't always right, to which her sister suggested that aborted baby parts or the possible selling of such things weren't really an opinion, but a fact.

NY Times providing cover for PP is not unexpected, or trying to discredit the videographer who has an agenda.

PP has an agenda.

So does the videographer.

Lots of folks out there do not love the idea of terminating unwanted babies, but realize it is going to happen and if it's going to happen, we want the women to safely emerge from the experience without dying, AS WELL.  Is that crass?  Yeah, sure it is.  The woman is not going to get her teeth cleaned, after all.  I am not judging the women who do this, because I know it must be an agonizing decision to make and I do understand that.

But that said, I would like to see less abortions and more birth control.  I have long said it, BC failures happen.  I am a case study in that having used BC and having it fail three separate times and I love my kiddos, even though I wasn't planning them at that particular moment in time.

So let's say that these parts are used for medical science.  What kind of medical science?  To help cure cancer? To taste flavor receptors for the PEPSI Cola company? (I have not verified this - just heard it this week from someone and it sounds pretty insane to me.) Does it give someone a moment's peace thinking, Gosh, I cannot carry this child/baby/fetus/cell tissue (insert your choice of words, here), but it is going to a good cause?

I would assume so.

If PP is monetizing it, well, wow.

The Take Charge program in WA state provides free or low cost contraception to women on Medicaid, age 12 and up.

And, if you are 12-17 years old, you don't even need your parent's permission.

"one that said there were more abortions provided to Blacks in DC, than births. Didn't click on it, because I honestly don't want to face the fact that there's a sickness here that is dragging all of us down"

If that is true, that is incredibly pathetic. That sounds like abortion being used as birth control, which I don't understand at all. Birth control pills are easy, cheap. I actually don't want to believe that is accurate, it makes no sense at all to do something like that, when pills are easily accessible.

I would completely support free norplant or IUD's, in areas where people obviously need it. Make it free, make it easy. If it avoids abortion, or unwanted pregnancies, why not do it?

It's bears repeating, lest I'm misunderstood, but I'm not even against abortion - as a necessary consequence that's less than the one that nature will provide, if it's left to run it's course. Hilary's 'safe, legal, and rare' is where I'd like to be on the issue, but... there was a link on Drudge the other day, one that said there were more abortions provided to Blacks in DC, than births. Didn't click on it, because I honestly don't want to face the fact that there's a sickness here that is dragging all of us down.

As to the rationalization - dirty as abortion is, the motive of anyone pointing out the fact disqualifies them for talking about it. Seems the guys and girls at the NYT read Catch-22, after all.

Well the NYTimes has proclaimed it's all the fault of the videographer.  No doubt we've reached a new low.

Nope, it ain't a happy place. People are more polarized than ever. I guess it works for the political class to divide and conquer.

Won't be any of that 'war eagle' stuff - my wife's an Alabama grad. Not that she isn't open-minded... her best friend from grad school came out of Auburn.

I can't even talk about politics with the family I agree with - we still get about as mad, just not at each other. Turns out O's America isn't a happy place at all. Who'd have ever thunk it?

I just try to not talk about anything political with my family. I can debate politely, but they get crazy. Really crazy.

We love each other dearly, long as we're overlooking the dysfunctional parts.

The rationalization might be because they have to find some explanation why their not feeling anything isn't abnormal.

"The story isn't my point. It's that you can't make a commodity of anything without losing a sense of perspective as to what it really is."

Perhaps that is how people rationalize things, because honestly, I don't know how else a normal person can keep this straight in their mind. Maybe they think it's even better that the organs aren't going to waste.

I was listening to a doctor on the radio rationalize this, and it sounded like someone who was mentally ill. Her main justification is that in Jewish writings, it's not alive until the head is halfway out. Hmm, wonder if you can push the baby back in a little bit during childbirth, and then it's not human again. So you can kill it, and sell the organs, just as long as the head isn't too far out? You know, I think some of these people wouldn't bat an eye if they listened to a recording where the fake buyers claimed that they were going to wear the organs around their neck, as a type of exotic jewelry.

I also wonder if they are directing women towards abortion, in order to get more body parts, as opposed to RU-486. I sure hope this gets investigated.

You must have some interesting family reunions, cat! And I hope you're not shouting, "War eagle" as you walk through the Alabama campus, that is, if you want to live...

At the risk of being justifiably run over by an illegal towing a junker back to Mexico, I'll just say...  it is what it is and relate a family tale. A recent one.

Congregated at my brother's place, with almost all of my relations. We were traveling through to take my daughter to orientation at U of Ala. and stopped to do the family thing on the way. Pool party kind of thing, lots of drinks, food, and drinks. An afternoon soaking up the sun, along with drinks.

My sister - the oldest one - is kind of liberal. English prof, voted for the One, trolling even the vaguest suggestion to her that socialism ain't the promised land guarantees a family moment, was burbling about some collaborative program, where she was going to address the lack of empathy in the medical profession. Used her DIL (medical practitioner) as an example of the lack.

Later, my darling wife told me that replying with "****, has it occurred to you that, besides the foxhole attitude that trial lawyers have brought to the profession,  commoditizing health care might account for the lack of empathy for patients?" was rude and not in any way the kind of family spirit I ought to be modeling for our daughter.

Pointed out she was right, along with pointing out that my sister, overly empathetic liberal that she is, wouldn't even allow her ex to visit with their dog.

My sister isn't the point, she's just something I felt like sharing. The point is that you can't make a commodity of anything without losing a sense of perspective as to it's real worth.

(edited for clarity. Least, that was my aim.)

Okay, I'm here to admit it. I'm horrified. I have been a huge supporter of PP for decades, both financially, and in spirit. I have defended them to anyone, for their long record of providing inexpensive birth control and providing women's screening services for a low price. I got very inexpensive birth control from them for years, and then my maternity supplements for next to nothing when I was pregnant. I am a believer in how much they help poor, and young women. However....

Selling body parts of aborted babies? I never would have believed it. I am sickened, disgusted, heartbroken at the thought of this.
