Good idea to wait, samurai. So many choices, and with traffic, some can be pretty bad. Make sure and go to the Puyallup Fair. They have some great performers there, for awesome ticket prices.
Hopefully we can get more people on the board. It has gotten too one sided, and too quiet over the years. It would be great if we could discuss (or argue) things nicely with new people....so I hope if anyone else comes on, people withhold any venom!
BD11, Thanks for the for the +1 an CC. I am too old for CC. Current board is Bogleheads.
Installed washlet in DS's place. At first he didn't want it, but then he re-thinked. The washlet bidet will be a selling feature to Airbnb clients. He inherited grandma's mid century modern furniture , so the washlet B. is just another inherited fixture/furniture/seat. Who wouldn't spend an extra $5-10/nite to enjoy the pleasure of a warm seat and warm water in places where water should be used more often. Do you think that people will pay a couple of extra bucks to do
a blow dry? I may trade his unit out for our's - we never use the blow dry feature- we drip dry..

DS bought a house. We're going to visit him more often-Seattle. His mommy is visiting with his grandma this weekend. And I will make a trip next week, weekdays for a bike & hike and visit 2nd cousin.

House sale had a few more quirks than I would have liked. In fact had to find a notary up here near hotel today. Fingers crossed that tomorrow means it is all done. Not jinxing it.
I have literally never been as disillusioned with politics and the people we have elected at all levels, as I am now. Even the drive up and out of California, it was fascinating to see the local farmers makeshift signs along the I-5. so many that bemoaned the bullet train over water and drought issues. Without water, food prices go up and kill the farmers and everyone who eats. CA cemtral valley provides so much food for our country. Signs begging our governor to do something. Anything.
The bullet train is an interesting project. It was injtially supposed to provide high speed rail from LA to San Francisco. It was approved by ballot initiative with very specific rules about funding it. Even one of the major proponents of the project says this project has become a boondoggle billions and billions on a project that will not even be a true bullet train. There will be a bus connecting tthe route. So, so dumb.
Fines are beimg given out to people in LA who use DWP water - if they do not cut their water usage by 20%, they could be fined. Other municipalities are charging fines if people have brown lawns. It is crazy.
That's true. He could launch the nukes in all directions, and still have a certain percentage approval rating. There is no critical thinking for some people, actions are irrelevant.
So samurai, if you're on here, how's the move going? House sale closed yet? I know you were having a few sticking points. Are you outta there and on your way?

Nixon will wear the mean label till they forget how to spell his name, but I always thought Carter gave him a run for the money.
All things considered, I'd say BO could have given them both lessons in possessing a mean spirit but the day that percentage shrinks past 30% or so will never come.
I don't really know much about how Nixon came across, actually.
I used to think that at least O was likeable and personable. But now I listen to him, and he is so full of $hit, I can barely stand it. Does he even listen to the garbage coming out of his mouth? Saying one thing and doing something completely different. Blaming everything on the Republicans. It sounds ridiculous and unbelievable, I don't know how he even keeps trying. I think he's a pathological liar, in fact. There are a small percentage that will believe everything he says, no matter what. But I think that percentage is shrinking. What a douche.
It is so rarely that we actually engage with those who disagree with us. Or even have a chance to go there. Socially, it is tough to bring up. I think we should be able to discuss in polite company political viewpoints, but that just does not happen much these days.
Kind of sad.
Years ago one of our dear family friends started working at SEIU. Made the transition from one ultra liberal company to next. She made some snarky comment on FB about publicising her new venture to change the tone in Washington, and yet it was a rip on those she disagreed with. I pointed that out to her. Haven't spoken much to her these days. Cannot really change the tone within Washington or any organization if not willing to address both sides. Never seen our country so dysfunctional. I harbor very little faith that our politicos will grow up and get a set, no matter what their political beliefs. At least anytime soon.
Okay, I am really bemused by the experience I had last night at a hotel. I thought you people might appreciate this.
I stopped by a hotel bar to grab a glass of wine, and found myself with two polar opposites sitting on each side of me. I was going to take it to my rom, but this was so intriguing to me, I just had to stay. On one side, an ultra conservative, outspoken guy that works at my company. On the other side, a higher up guy working for the SEIU for decades, ultra liberal, true believer. What a conversation.
The most entertaining part was after the SEIU guy gave a long impassioned explanation about how women are treated in the workplace. How they are not listened to, examples, how it happens even in their organization. And that the few women that end up being highly successful have adapted to act like men, abrasive and difficult to get along with, the worst sort of person to work with. I have to admit, he made me think about things and I'm sure he was right, though that is definitely not the world I live in. Or maybe I am the ahole and just don't know it?
Anyways, after he gave his impassioned argument, the other guy said, "You know, you really made sense, you've given me a great idea!" The SEIU guy looked happy that maybe something he'd said had gotten through. Conservative guy shouted out, "We've been having so many problems getting our negotiators to listen to our lawyers, they just roll right over them. What we need to do is get a real bitch lawyer in there to negotiate for us!"
At that point, SEIU guy started collecting his stuff to leave. The look on his face was priceless. Fortunately he decided to stick around for another drink. Rarely do I meet people who are so extreme in their views, but actually managing to have a conversation. Though I don't know how much got through. I'm still chuckling.
Well I did read some good news....apparently the presidency of Barack Obama is such a dismal failure, kids coming of age during the last six years may very well mature into conservative voters! Maybe they'll even mature, after witnessing our embarrassment of a president who has never outgrown petulant kid mode. Sad they had to experience this debacle, but maybe some good will come out of it in the long run. We can only hope!
Hey, don't insult ovaries. Ovaries doesn't equal weak or stupid, as is the case here.
I'm hoping that people will start confronting Obama with some serious questions. Like, even if you get the exact immigration bill that you want passed, how is this going to stop or even slow the huge flow of illegals into our country? How is it going to do anything but encourage it? And how is it going to help to spend billions more dollars making the illegals more comfortable and speeding up the process, of getting them into the country? I think he just wants as many people as possible to slip in the back door. Or through the front door. He doesn't want to stop this. I would have thought that was paranoia before, but now it appears to be the truth.
Listening to O right now...don't know, I think he has a lot of ovaries. :)
Re the "immigration" crisis...It's all the Republicans' fault, Republicans are evil, because they probably will not be willing to pass the 3.7 Billion "supplemental."
As if that wasn't the whole set-up to begin with.
No blame for him---"just pass the supplemental." "The supplemental may fall victim to partisan politics."
Is this guy for real??? Seriously, as I have said for years, we are dealing with a personality disorder here.
True, hope. But....should we get stuck with Hillary, at least she has far more balls than Obama. She would have to be a lot better, because how could she be worse?
I don't think I want a Bush, and I definitely don't want a Clinton. Nor a Chris Christie. Yuck. I don't think Hillary will do very good if they put up a decent Republican against her, though that might be a problem finding a decent one. I don't know if I like anyone at all anymore. Perhaps the person that people know the least about will win because we're sick of everybody else.
"I was under the impression that "to win" should be with the individual(s) who will represent the best overall direction for the country, not the party. Winning with the status quo (for whatever party or political leaning you ascribe to) doesn't always provide the best "agenda". "
Interesting concept! I always thought to win, you needed to get the most votes.
What about "ultra liberal"? Why doesn't anyone worry about individuals falling under that label? Of course, I would appreciate hearing from others as what the definition for this group of politicians would be.
I was under the impression that "to win" should be with the individual(s) who will represent the best overall direction for the country, not the party. Winning with the status quo (for whatever party or political leaning you ascribe to) doesn't always provide the best "agenda".
Amazing isn't it. Some think that ultra conservatives will win. Apparently they are unaware of the rest of the country who definitely do not want ultra conservatives.
Personally, if it's Jeb v. Hillary I will be abstaining from voting in a presidential election for the first time in my life -- Jeb v. Anybody, same.
oh, heck. I can't think of any scenario in which I will bother to vote this time around Because I'm so sick and tired of these moderates they keep dragging out in order to lose elections. McCain, Romney...not again. Will not partake.
Hope that the GM problem has put fear into hearts of company's executives . To the Regulators, they should have kept GM from sweeping the problem to away, only to see the dirt fall back in bigger quantity.
Obtuse as ever, lp - the only people who give a rat's about GM are those addicted to the union money and that the NHTSA doesn't have whatever they're missing is a big fat yawn to about everyone.
Rather, how about Harry Reid's obsession with the Koch brothers? He's starting to look like... a stalker... and as old as he is, it ain't particularly pretty.
Kind of like your granddad letching after that little girl that rides her bike past the house every day.
House hearing on GM faulty switches and culture. IMO, Bara, is being evasive, which is why she is being the big bucks. Ultimate question, Will, GM, survive? Manufacturing union/nonunion employees on the production line, are the heroes as compared to the decision makers. Also, IMO, committee members are soft on Bara.
Good move to retain Kenneth Feinberg before some plaintiff did.
Yes cat, the dems have a pretty good strategy going. They just blurt out whatever bull crap pops up in their heads, knowing that the media will pretty it up for them.
Besides the fact killing pollsters would be a whole lotta fun, I've about lost interest in what they churn out. Them and their product seem irrelevant, because sixty days of class warfare or women's issues has been proven enough to float a losers boat for a whole nother four years. Feeling better about it though, since I guess I've finally wised up.
"Closed for two days.... excessive politicking and TOS violation... in lieu of permanent banning."
Hah.... how many California posters are sucking their thumbs tonight? Tough love but maybe one or two of them will put away the No-Doze and eat something.
It seems a majority of citizens want more than roadblocks...they want a reversal of all that PBO has "proposed and accomplished."
Remains to be seem whether HRC can put enough distance between herself and PBO and between herself and her husband's sleaze factor to win the election. I don't even think the first woman president thing has a chance of flying, since the Dems won on the first black president thing so recently.
Nope. Hillary is old news, been there, done that.
Most Americans disagree that PBO has "good ideas" and has taken the country to a "higher level" lol.
"Nearly six in ten Americans now disapprove of President Obama's job performance, with just 41 percent giving him a thumbs-up. That's the top line result of a new Associated Pressnational poll, representing Obama's worst performance in the history of the survey. Obama didn't fare any better on most issues, earning poor marks on his handling of the economy (39/59), the federal budget (36/63), immigration (38/61), and foreign affairs (40/58). The survey reveals a sharp deterioration in the president's personal favorability, which dropped to (42/51). Bizarrely, the AP appears to not have asked any questions about Obamacare, despite any number of news hooks -- including the impending (but extended) enrollment deadline."
But we get the leaders we deserve. I've become expert for the most part in tuning out Obama; I suppose I can do the same for Hillary, if it has to come to that.
"I'll have to ask LP why the GOP is the stupid party when supposedly Hillary already has a lock on the 2016 Democrat nomination'
I'm probably a Nixonion-Lincoln Republican who looks towards a future of the Republican Party and not at the past nor at who could be the Democrat Party's nominee. IOW Stupid Party should be looking for leaders and issues that can take the Nation to a higher level even though those issues may be the same as the Democrat's position.
I imagine the SP is looking at possible issues that HRC will want to bring up and areas of personal character faults . These are losing strategies and even the best SP idea and SP leader is already too late, because we all know that good ideas come from the D's and they have ability to implement them against bad conditions. Hope, has already given up on a credible SP leader and rather try to put up roadblocks to anything that HRC/BC championed, along with everything that the illegal PBO has proposed and accomplished.
The first indications I had in the dumbing-down of the GOP is when some low level functionary accused Wild Bill of doing a travellog of Europe rather than studying at Oxford on a Rhodes Scholarship. It is all about building a network and BC/HRC built a credible and effective network. The last GOP networker was of course RR, who wasn't above breaking the law and then forgot everything and we soon discovered that AZ is contagious.
Thank you, MadHatter. Trouble is, I realized it's apparently not possible to think about 2016 without being forced to contemplate four or eight years of Hillary, and therefore Bill...something I am not capable of doing without becoming almost physically ill. Ha, there must be quite a few "independents" who feel the same way.
I'll have to ask LP why the GOP is the stupid party when supposedly Hillary already has a lock on the 2016 Democrat nomination.
Yeah, they seem to do that every now and then. Texaspg must be really patient to put in such effort to clean it up (usually most of mine end up disappearing). It is an important topic to many people, and I see the desire to keep it going....but there's no way it isn't going to go off topic, turn into political arguments, with that group of people.
