Installed washlet in DS's place. At first he didn't want it, but then he re-thinked. The washlet bidet will be a selling feature to Airbnb clients. He inherited grandma's mid century modern furniture , so the washlet B. is just another inherited fixture/furniture/seat. Who wouldn't spend an extra $5-10/nite to enjoy the pleasure of a warm seat and warm water in places where water should be used more often.  Do you think that people will pay a couple of extra bucks to do

a blow dry? I may trade his unit out for our's - we never use the blow dry feature- we drip dry..

Had a number of people ask me on cc for this site, so maybe we'll have some more people soon. It has been very slow here lately.

I have literally never been as disillusioned with politics and the people we have elected at all levels, as I am now. Even the drive up and out of California, it was fascinating to see the local farmers makeshift signs along the I-5. so many that bemoaned the bullet train over water and drought issues. Without water, food prices go up and kill the farmers and everyone who eats. CA cemtral valley provides so much food for our country. Signs begging our governor to do something. Anything. 

The bullet train is an interesting project. It was injtially supposed to provide high speed rail from LA to San Francisco. It was approved by ballot  initiative with very specific rules about funding it. Even one of the major proponents of the project says this project has become a boondoggle billions and billions on a project that will not even be a true bullet train. There will be a bus connecting tthe route. So, so dumb. 

Fines are beimg given out to people in LA who use DWP water - if they do not cut their water usage by 20%, they could be fined. Other municipalities are charging fines if people have brown lawns. It is crazy. 

 

Nixon will wear the mean label till they forget how to spell his name, but I always thought Carter gave him a run for the money.

All things considered, I'd say BO could have given them both lessons in possessing a mean spirit but the day that percentage shrinks past 30% or so will never come.

Just watching O's press conference. I realized how similar he is to Nixon...

Counting the days until we won't have Obama to kick around anymore.

 

Okay, I am really bemused by the experience I had last night at a hotel. I thought you people might appreciate this.

I stopped by a hotel bar to grab a glass of wine, and found myself with two polar opposites sitting on each side of me. I was going to take it to my rom, but this was so intriguing to me, I just had to stay. On one side, an ultra conservative, outspoken guy that works at my company. On the other side, a higher up guy working for the SEIU for decades, ultra liberal, true believer. What a conversation.

The most entertaining part was after the SEIU guy gave a long impassioned explanation about how women are treated in the workplace. How they are not listened to, examples, how it happens even in their organization. And that the few women that end up being highly successful have adapted to act like men, abrasive and difficult to get along with, the worst sort of person to work with. I have to admit, he made me think about things and I'm sure he was right, though that is definitely not the world I live in. Or maybe I am the ahole and just don't know it?

Anyways, after he gave his impassioned argument, the other guy said, "You know, you really made sense, you've given me a great idea!" The SEIU guy looked happy that maybe something he'd said had gotten through. Conservative guy shouted out, "We've been having so many problems getting our negotiators to listen to our lawyers, they just roll right over them. What we need to do is get a real bitch lawyer in there to negotiate for us!"

At that point, SEIU guy started collecting his stuff to leave. The look on his face was priceless. Fortunately he decided to stick around for another drink. Rarely do I meet people who are so extreme in their views, but actually managing to have a conversation. Though I don't know how much got through. I'm still chuckling.

Well I did read some good news....apparently the presidency of Barack Obama is such a dismal failure, kids coming of age during the last six years may very well mature into conservative voters!  Maybe they'll even mature, after witnessing our embarrassment of a  president who has never outgrown petulant kid mode. Sad they had to experience this debacle, but maybe some good will come out of it in the long run. We can only hope!

Listening to O right now...don't know, I think he has a lot of ovaries. :)

Re the "immigration" crisis...It's all the Republicans' fault, Republicans are evil, because they probably will not be willing to pass the 3.7 Billion "supplemental."

As if that wasn't the whole set-up to begin with.

No blame for him---"just pass the supplemental." "The supplemental may fall victim to partisan politics."

Is this guy for real???  Seriously, as I have said for years, we are dealing with a personality disorder here.

 

I think he's gone over the edge.  Scary to watch.

 

 

 

Thoughts on Hillary...time to let go, ol' girl.

 

Sexist and ageist, I know....but true. 

I don't think I want a Bush, and I definitely don't want a Clinton. Nor a Chris Christie. Yuck. I don't think Hillary will do very good if they put up a decent Republican against her, though that might be a problem finding a decent one. I don't know if I like anyone at all anymore. Perhaps the person that people know the least about will win because we're sick of everybody else.

"I was under the impression that "to win" should be with the individual(s) who will represent the best overall direction for the country, not the party. Winning with the status quo (for whatever party or political leaning you ascribe to) doesn't always provide the best "agenda". "

 

Interesting concept!  I always thought to win, you needed to get the most votes.

Many of my previously conservative friends are now libertarian leaning. Including myself. 

Ultra conservatives will not be successful. 

i am fed up with anyone who is a career politician, or any part of a presidential dynasty. 

Something has to change. 

What you want an ultra conservative to run and lose? The game is to Win and then institute the Agenda. 

Hope that the GM problem has put  fear into hearts of company's executives . To the  Regulators, they should have kept GM from sweeping the problem to away, only to see the dirt fall back in bigger quantity.  

We do know that the Stupid Party was forced to do the House hearings on GM, don't we. 

Why doesn't NHSTA have a chief administrator? Because the Stupid Party want all the credit.

Yes cat, the dems have a pretty good strategy going.  They just blurt out whatever bull crap pops up in their heads, knowing that the media will pretty it up for them.

 

It seems a majority of citizens want more than roadblocks...they want a reversal of all that PBO has "proposed and accomplished."

Remains to be seem whether HRC can put enough distance between herself and PBO and between herself and her husband's sleaze factor to win the election. I don't even think the first woman president thing has a chance of flying, since the Dems won on the first black president thing so recently. 

Nope.  Hillary is old news, been there, done that.  

Most Americans disagree that PBO has "good ideas" and has taken the country to a "higher level" lol.

But we get the leaders we deserve.  I've become expert for the most part in tuning out Obama; I suppose I can do the same for Hillary, if it has to come to that.

Thank you, MadHatter.  Trouble is, I realized it's apparently not possible to think about 2016 without being forced to contemplate four or eight years of Hillary, and therefore Bill...something I am not capable of doing without becoming almost physically ill.  Ha, there must be quite a few "independents" who feel the same way.

Yeah, they seem to do that every now and then. Texaspg must be really patient to put in such effort to clean it up (usually most of mine end up disappearing). It is an important topic to many people, and I see the desire to keep it going....but there's no way it isn't going to go off topic, turn into political arguments, with that group of people.

I am not crazy about that new format. It's a little irritating.

What an incredibly responsive moderator. I think you should also consider moderating the cc forum, I mean, what else would be more fun?
