F**** punks always get away....first time I heard it and to this day, not racial IMO. He is referring to thieves, criminals...they always seem to get away. From the 911 call, he wasn't even sure of TM's race.

and protests are planned throughout the US...to protest what?..our system worked the way it should have, state did not have the evidence to throw a guy in jail..PERIOD
Bias media plays the race card..TM being portrayed as an innocent child buying skittles...no mention of his violent past.

"On the other hand, maybe geeps got tired of being called a hater and complained to the authorities... who can ever know?'

ha...me complain to authorities? not a chance. I was banned for a week for calling the Boston marathon bomber a Muslim extremist scumbag..I guess Islamic extremist is OK..lol
I get a kick out of CC...I've never experienced such a large group of bleeding heart liberals in my life..It's almost comical, they refuse to even consider other possibilities.

..and when you take the opposing side, they tell you to stop because the thread will be shut down...too funny...

Ineptitude aside, it's been a great exercise for those who owe their careers to a steady improvement in race relations. From the president all the way down to MSNBC, this has been one of those great big ol' teachable moments, and it's not over yet...

... 'cause it's all about keeping that fence up.

I'm not sure Canada is going to be far enough... isn't his mother Peruvian?

Question for anybody - was the prosecution allowed to bring in witnesses to testify to GZ's alleged racial bias? If they were, why didn't they do so? Because without those testimonies, all I see for Melissa Harris-Perry, Reverend Al, Toure, et all, to label GZ a racial profiler is "f*** punks," "a*******." Am I wrong?

I doubt the prosecutor's licenses are at risk. I was surprised but not surprised that the judge let the case go to the jury. If there had not been such media focus, I doubt the judge would have let the case go to the jury.

CC shut down the third thread on the trial. I didn't start it so, they didn't attack me for doing so. It's so childish on their part. Adults should be able to speak about whatever they want. The mods could simply declare a thread as a "no moderation' thread and let folks have at it.

If GZ only had his fists, he would have been in the hospital with a head fully split open. A few more good slams of GZ's head on concrete would have killed him. By the time the cops got there, GZ could have been in pretty bad shape and TM would have fled.

What if GZ had his fists only? According to all testimony it is likely TM would have had the upper hand. When might he have .decided to stop pummeling GZ? Whenever it was, TM would have ended up in the justice system that his school district tried so hard to keep him out of.

Alan Dershowitz has said repeatedly throughout this case that the prosecution screwed up. They withheld evidence when charging the case (which he said should never have been murder 2), they ignored the actial evidence. he has said this case should never have been brought to trial, in first place.

Now he is suggesting that the Prisecutors should be disbarred.

When a lead prosecutor fans the racial flames by saying they want to get justice for Trayvon, while ignoring the evidence and ignoring the rule of law - innocent until proven guilty. The prosecutor's job is also to do justice for Zimmerman, to make sure he is treated fairly.  Was he?

treated fairly, that is.

Nope. The prosecutors, instead of doing their damn jobs, were trying to reduce racial tensions. Should not have filed case based on evidence they had.

The media is culpable here, as well. Still is.

http://www.nydailynews.com/opinion/drop-george-zimmerman-murder-charge-article-1.1080161?pgno=1

"Under Florida Bar Rule 3.8, prosecutors in a criminal case are required to “refrain from prosecuting a charge that the prosecutor knows is not supported by probable cause… or make timely disclosure to the defense of all evidence or information known to the prosecutor that tends to negate the guilt of the accused or mitigates the offense…”

Hope I think its call assymetric. Doesnt matter who attacked first however the first attacker will have an advantage if weapons are equal and definite advantage to the attacker has the lesser weapon. TM mistake was assuming GZ had the same weapontry>fists ... But not the overwhelming gun. Happens alot in politic campaigning.

When the police officers were acquitted with the Rodney King verdict, I saw my city set on fire.

To me, those officers went too far. I was NOT surprised about rioting.

This situation is different.  It isn't stand your ground, either. Those four unaccounted for minutes were enough for Trayvon to go home. He didn't.

It is a tragedy that another young man lost his life, but it is not the wrong verdict in this case.

NPR did a piece today on game theory for two parties with various scenarios of knowns and unknowns. GW and DarthVader ran through the options, and determined that it is always better to be the first strike. Of course you do know that USA has never disavowed the first strike in either a nuclear or non-nuclear war.

This is an economic problem well discussed. Both TM and GM probably guessed the first strike option, and when the other party struck first the outcome was sealed.

This is the reason why dueling was outlawed.

The media tried this case.

if you look at timeline of what pundits and supposed journalists said throughout the case, they inserted their opinions and ignored the facts.

The best part of the verdict is that Sunny Hostin is upset She said justice took the day off for this case. She is just nuts and biased by race. TM has four minutes to walk home which was a few hundred feet away. Instead it hid someplace and punched GZ in the face as revenge for following him. Unfortunately for TM, GZ had a gun and had to use it. TM should have gone home rather than attacking GZ.

I read snippets of the conditions for manslaughter and found them ambiguous enough to allow a wide latitude of interpretation.

A mistrial might have indicated the special circumstances leading to the charge played a part but the acquittal suggests otherwise. If it was me, I'd pack a light bag and go for an extended visit with my mom's family. Maybe learn a trade, shed a few pounds, and reflect.

The judge to me looked almost relieved/happy-- like she knows this is the correct outcome.

It all came down to the last minutes. Obviously a bright enough jury to understand this.

Zimmerman's neighbor Frank something said on TV that he knew the jury was 5 for acquittal and 1 who was hung up on manslaughter. How he knows what the jury is thinking and no one else does is pretty amazing. Maybe he is a mind reader.

Those bastards in Florida fired the whistleblower who pointed out the prosecution had not produced relevant evidence to Zimmerman's lawyer. The guy is a hero.

While the world waits on the decision of the George Zimmerman jury, in regards to how the trial came to be we’re finding out more about what happened behind the curtain. Ben Kruidbos was the IT director at the State Attorney’s Office (SAO). Florida State Attorney Angela Corey fired Kruidbos because he allegedly violated public records laws. The letter Kruidbos received at his home read:

“Your egregious lack of regard for the sensitive nature of the information handled by this office is completely abhorrent. You have proven to be completely untrustworthy. Because of your deliberate, willful and unscrupulous actions, you can never again be trusted to step foot in this office.”

Again, lp, your scenario paints GZ as a blood-thirsty crazy vigilante, and there was absolutely no evidence to support this presented in court. None.

Unless your proof is "f*** a****" a term my DH uses all too often toward complete strangers, as GZ did.

Perhaps there will come a time when we can calmly come to an understanding of and have a discussion of the motivation of TM.

And try to find ways to heal race relations so that it never happens again.

If the president was sitting as a juror, what would he be billed as? Would his mother count at all?

I swear I saw somewhere that an acquittal for self-defense would insulate Zimmerman from the civil suits but I'm thinking that was muddled. All I've found on the google is something about; under the SYG law, the judge could have thrown out the charges and the civil actions would have been neutered.

Anything less than manslaughter and 20 years is going to leave a bitter taste in mouths of a lot of people, courtesy of the grievance machine.

The case has gone to the jury.

I just saw the CNN said one of the jurors may be hispanic or black. Previously that juror had been referred to as hispanic. If black, that's bad for GZ.

Haha, I remember that.  CGM had great writing skills well hidden on CC apparently.

i often wonder what happened to her too. I seem to remember she mentioned something vaguely ominous (something about her daughter or husband)  before she disappeared which made me wonder if she had experienced some kind of tragedy.

Before my time but wasn't there an obit for her on CC, one including an explanation for the weird syntax?

 --------------------------------------------------------------------

Police called to a Bay area home discovered the mummified remains of a woman—believed to be a popular College Admissions web site poster—lying on the floor in front of flickering blue-and-white computer screen that they said appeared to have been logged-on for more than five years.

According to police Lt. Mick Ronson, the college admissions poster had apparently rolled off of her couch at some point within the last year, inititiating a cause of death that has yet to be determined. However, “she was completely covered with Dorito crumbs and congealed bean-dip, which seem to have attracted mice and other animals,” said Lt. Ronson. “These animals scampered all over her laptop keyboard, resulting in numerous mispelled posts at the college web site, along with a great deal of fractured syntax, creating the illusion that she was in fact, still alive. We think that chunks of plaster falling from the ceiling may have randomly hit the keyboard, resulting in additional posts, further contributing to the illusion of a live, if very eccentric, person.”

Most fellow posters contacted for comment chose to remain anonymous. Several suggested “binge drinking” as a likely cause, noting that Wexler surveys of frequent College Admissions posters indicated that most had consumed 4 or more drinks at some point during their lives prior to their most recent postings. Others pointed to the addictive nature of participating on message boards where one can argue with obsessive-compulsive twerps 24/7. One, a Bay-area attorney, ruefully noted the number of his former clients now serving lengthy prison terms–”I’d ask for continuances, and then run off and argue with teenage girls at the College Admissions site,” he chuckled, twirling his pony-tail.

One former poster was willing to comment for the record: “Driver” was reached aboard Anthony Keidis’s yacht late last night. “Frankly I wouldn’t be at all surprised [could you grab me another margarita?…thanks so much….] to learn that any number of compulsive CC posters are in fact mummified corpses. I mean, just read the leftist dreck that they write, over and over and over. It’s hard to imagine that it’s all not actually posted by vermin and/or random chunks of falling plaster.”

Lt. Ronson noted that the woman’s body has not been moved, and that the coroner’s investigation could last for months. “There’s an unbelievable amount of crumbs and crust on that sweater of hers….she could be posting on CC for months longer with all those critters running around,” he said, shaking his head. “I wonder if anyone at that web site will notice.”

Like anything else in life, we all have our take on things, don't we.

On the GZ v Florida thread, I saw people subtly (or not so subtly) being accused of racism if they attempted to give the evidence a fair hearing.

I thought many of the posts were absolutely outrageous, over-the-top, hysterical about how guilty GZ was. Jibes at Fox News galore. One poster proclaimed "I hate George Zimmerman." There was no commentary by posters or mods, that I saw, at least, after that post. One might  think the thread would have been shut down after that post. It was not.

Good thing I'm still not posting over there, because I'm sure I would last two seconds on the DOMA thread. Please don't try to tell me that anti gay-marriage views are treated with respect and that people who are pro gay marriage are not "rude." Seriously.

There is always a double standard as far as I can see over there. Longtime posters , if they are on the right side of an issue, can be snarky, catty, and nasty as can be--no repercussions that I see. Look at how they are ganging up on cobrat on the wealthy elite thread, or even the way they went after the OP on that thread. Not "rude?"

There are measured, lovely liberals like JHS over there, and then there is, and always has been in one form or another, a clique of "mean girls" who get/got away with everything. JYM is an example.

There is a direct correlation between my being Catholic, and having been very unpopular with certain posters. That is because Catholicism does not and never will support gay marriage.

Check out the DOMA thread, Donna L's final post.

I am very familiar with Conyat, who morphed into Dallice I heard. I guess you missed the thread here recently  in which she came after me directly because of my gay marriage views.

razorsharp, if I had to guess, I would guess GZ will get acquitted.  I think the prosecutors didn't have an open and shut case, and they made what case they had very badly.   Pretty surprising really.  I'm not a lawyer, and I think even I could have done a better job in the closing argument.  I agree with you that TM socked GZ.  However, there were just too many discrepancies in GZ's story, and in my opinion the "under stress" defense isn't compelling.  We've never seen him show any stress at all.  Most people would be upset they shot someone dead, even if they felt they were justified.  For example, train conductors who run over a car on the tracks, even when it was physically impossible to stop the train, have been known to totally fall apart and go through a grieving process for a while.  But GZ never showed any of that at all.  I find that weird.  Not evidence, but weird.  We don't have long to wait, right?

Hope, all I got from your explanation is that you assumed it was liberals who complained because you assumed it was liberals who complained.  You actually have no facts at all. You suggest I think it was conservatives.  See, once again your assumptions may be faulty.  I have no idea who complained as no one told me, and would not make charges in the absence of a scintilla of evidence.  In fact, there's no reason to think it was any of the posters who complained.  It could just as easily have been anonymous lurkers reading the thread but not commenting.  The reason I say that is because the posters all seemed to be really into it, and I can't see why they would want the thread closed down.  But who knows.  Obviously neither of us do.

One of the issues I have with you all constantly blaming liberals for your being banned is that you aren't friends with the liberals, so you don't know which of them got suspended or banned too. You see what happened to you, and you don't see what happened to others. There were several liberal people banned, but you didn't miss them so not quite so obvious.  For example, there was one wildly liberal poster who didn't last long.  Dallas or something like that.  She was banned, but I would hazard the guess that she didn't email you to complain about it.  And mini was suspended several times, then finally banned.  He told me they let him back in because it was well known he'd had a serious heart attack and many of the posters were worried that he'd died!  So they let him back on with the promise that he would tone it way down, which he has.

Did you really get banned because you were conservative and Catholic?  Or perhaps because the moderator you were arguing with just thought your response was rude?  They're just people too. That means they react to things just the same way we do, sometimes correctly and sometimes not.   I'm quite sure that if you insulted them the way I've seen you insult us, they may have decided to do something about it.

There are plenty of conservatives who never got banned.

from what I understand, Florida's Selfdefense law,  makes it illegal for law enforcement to question, arrest, and charge, the shooter. Florida and many other states will have a future rash of spousal killings.

My take is this.

My personal opinion is that I don't like guns and if you use a gun you should be the one proving you acted in self defense. Unfortunately, that is not the law in FL and probably not the law anywhere. GZ is a wanna be cop who is a jerk but I can't fault a man for being concerned about crime in his neighborhood especially given the next door neighbor who had two thugs break into her home to steal.

TM's family is falsely alleging racism by the police and by GZ. It's disgusting but given that they want action taken against the killer of their son, it is not surprising they played the race card.

Zimmerman is hispanic. He is not white and those who claim he is a white hispanic are probably doing so to make the case fit their agenda of blaming white people for everything. Most black commentators are obsessed with getting a verdict against a non black for killing a black. They are racists. It is unfortunate that so many black people seem unconcerned about shootings between blacks, but they go crazy when a hispanic does the shooting. I am sick of all this gun violence.

There is no doubt in my mind that GZ was following TM because he though TM was a thief. Doing so is not a crime and if you wanted to stop crime in your neighborhood, you have to identify the suspect and have the police stop him.

There is no doubt in my mind that TM punched GZ. That's a crime. TM engaged in a crime. TM was annoyed that GZ was following him. His response should have been to run home which is where he was near or call 911. Punching GZ was not lawful or appropriate. Once TM punched GZ, he placed himself at risk of fighting someone armed with a weapon.

There is no doubt in my mind that GZ felt he was at risk of significant harm if he did not shoot TM. TM was on top pushing or punching or holding GZ downward. GZ cried for help but no one would help him. He had no choice but to shoot TM. TM would be alive if he had not punched GZ and got on top of him.

hayden, Mainelonghorn said the thread was closed because of complaints. Well if that is the standard I fail to see how the DOMA thread remained open. I can't imagine there being more complaints about the zimmerman trial, than homosexuality and the courts. The statements on both threads were not that offensive given prior threads that were tolerated on CC.

I'm listening to the prosecution's closing statement and the prosecutor's voice keeps rising quickly. It's sort of like how GZ's voice rose to a high level when he was screaming for help.

The prosecution is pointing out that GZ's statements vary and that GZ lied to the cops about not knowing the streets.

Prosecution points out that TM's hands underneath his body. Problem with that is that there were two experts who said the body retracts inward after being shot.

Prosecution points out that no TM DNA on gun but GZ's DNA on gun.

Mr Trayvon's best option when confronted was to throw the first punch. There is no law of War, that says that it is not legal to attack first and make War for your self-defense. The Castle defense may be OK within the confines of your own home, however, outside of your home, only the State should decide whether a shooting is justifiable, and that is before the trigger is pulled.

GZ got into TM personal space but would never (assumed) get into T's personal space unless he (GZ) knew he (GZ) had superior weapon and known before the approach.

If you teach your children to standup to bullies, You could now be a grieving parent.

Like I said, I only frequent CC for the "outright gambling"  (I'm up nearly 25% and 30% ytd on my managed accounts and 10-15% on unmanaged accounts)smile and any thread with a potential bearer of grandchildrenevileye

I frequent UrbanBaby (lurker, in preparation for that future DIL) and Cartalk.

As for GZ: a wannabe. He  will get off criminally but will lose badly in civil liability,

Well that's very interesting, longprime, but in no way negates my experience.

Did you know that one is a bigot--no questions asked-- if one does not support gay marriage now?

Posters on CC routinely call anyone now who is not a gay marriage supporter a bigot. Check out the DOMA thread.

Our president was not until fairly recently a supporter. Bill Clinton himself who signed the act into law in 1996. A large percentage of our population still does not support it.

yet on CC it is perfectly acceptable to call nonsupporters bigots, and no one bats an eye.

Just as kluge and poetgrl can imply that anyone who in the slightest wants to wait until all the evidence is presented in the TM case is "afraid of big scary black men."

CC is at the vanguard of political correctness. It's the main reason I keep reading...to keep my finger on the pulse of leftist attitudes, knowing they'll never be called out on that board by moderators.

Personally I think it was my anti-gay marriage stance that ultimately did me in there .

really, I'm a Liberal.

I voted RP because he is Honest, and willing to call the R's out on those issues that matter to me-Patriot Act and the Wars, neither of which the R's can never repudiate. PR is also an idiot on monetary policy and just stupid on fiscal policy.

I see you as conflicted, longprime. All those nice things about Ron Paul... maybe you've strayed, maybe you're thinking about it.

The mod/individual poster thing I understand but the mentality that claims a right not to be challenged on their political correctness, not so much. Can't imagine anything more ignorantly dishonest, to be honest.

I've noticed in the past, and to a degree on that thread, a certain: "you're a hater for bringing that up" and "I'd rather this discussion dried up because I'd rather not know that people on this board are haters." Absent remarks related to only one poster, I recall seeing these things overwhelmingly from liberal posters, though that just my recollection.

On the other hand, maybe geeps got tired of being called a hater and complained to the authorities... who can ever know?

razorsharp, I tried to send you a PM on CC, but you turned the function off.  I thought I could find you here, and I'm glad to succeed.

I wanted to ask if there were some way to continue the conversation off the main board.  I was so ticked off when they closed the thread.  I totally agree with your previous comment on this thread - I didn't think there were any personal attacks either.  That was the only site that I've found that had any worthwhile information / opinions.  When they closed your first thread, I actually sent a PM to the mods and asked them to re-open it.  It really irritates me that they suddenly close it without giving a warning, or telling us what they're concerned about.

Do you have any ideas?

Hope, I saw your post.  Just out of curiosity, how did you find out who complained?  I personally have no idea how you get the inside information of exactly who complained and why.  You must be really connected.

Ah, good question, Hayden.

Back in the day (and we are talking about 5 years ago, I think), everyone knew CC skewed liberal. It was something of a joke at the time. I can't tell you how many pm's I received from people thanking me for having the nerve to speak up about views they themselves had, but were too intimidated to attach their names to.

(There were other conservatives who were somewhat better tolerated, I think, since they were not Conservative and Catholic.)

It's a while ago, so obviously I don't remember exact details, but I had received several warnings/timeouts from mods, mainly because of "complaints" from posters. Of course, the mods did not attach names to the "complaints," nor disclose what the complaints were about.

I do remember that my last timeout was prompted by one complaint, supposedly. I might still be posting today (though it's unlikely) had it not  been for my question to the mod in response to my timeout asking why posters couldn't take care of themselves since we were adults (i.e. something like the rules on this board), and that I felt we were being treated as children. Oops...banned for life!!

Since I was an outspoken conservative, if you want to believe the complaints were from other conservatives, be my guest. I think otherwise.

IMO there were tons of misinformation on that thread--- as well as opinions masked as facts. Kudos to razorsharp for injecting some facts into the drama queen discussion.

Yep.

The censoring was uneven. Which by the very comment of complaining got you timeout, points, and banned. I at times tried very hard to get banned, but they [moderators] liked me too much.evileye
