Okay, now I understand. I just assumed when you were talking about the corps, you were talking about Americorps. The program you're looking at sounds really great, something you're interested in and passionate about, that will give you some good money towards school. Plus low cost of living, and maybe even staying where you're at? That sounds like a pretty sweet deal!
To add to that, after reading samurai's post.....stay away from the Peace Corps!

I think FA decisions come out around early/mid-March. I'm highly considering taking a gap year to do Americorps as I would earn money and scholarships that way. I'm just going to have to wait it out and see what happens.
Yes, FA is going to be a large factor unfortunately. All my programs seem to be around 40-50k total for tuition (20k-25k/year), but the cost of living is varying DRAMATICALLY. Coming from a very low COL area, it's taking me a while to adjust to these apartment prices.
I got my admission letter while out to dinner for my birthday (it came over email). The waitress heard and I got a free drink out of the deal. Yay college towns
But in the meantime, I the program is called Global Health with a concentration in Sexual and Reproductive Health and Population Studies. I am so extremely happy. This is EXACTLY what I want to do but I'm not willing to go 60k+ in debt to get it on top of my undergrad debt
So annoying, I keep trying to figure out how to trick this bug, because it won't allow me to post on the top thread of off-topic. Thought I had it figured out, but now I think all I have to do is move the first topic down one. I keep trying to post congratulations to romani, but it logs me out. Fooled it this time!
Hey, we told you that you'd get into all your schools!
Whatever will you do? Do the decisions come with financial aid info, or does that come later? I suppose that can make one program far more attractive than another.
So that is awesome, you are in your second choice already and waiting to hear from the first. What a great place to be!
And it is completely logical that being near your family is part of the equation. If one program isn't far, far above the other one....that seems like the tipping point for almost anything. Being near people who love you is always important.
Awesome news! Much to consider. Sounds like good decisions, even if difficult. Never underestimate the power of having a family or friends network while in school. Or even, in life after college!
I really, really like the way their program is set up. They have a mentor program where they pair you with a professional who shares your interests and they do that right from the start. St. Louis' program is hybrid with the 2nd year all online, which I'm having more and more mixed feelings about despite the fact that I like online classes. The program is also a top 10 program which is far higher ranked than St. Louis'.
There's also quite a few projects going on at Minnesota that are just amazing to me and are so relevant to my field of study.
Plus, I would really like to be close to family. I know that logically this shouldn't be part of the equation, but the only family I talk to is there. Plus, my aunt works for the FDA (formerly worked for the CDC) in Minneapolis so I would have some potential contacts.
The COL is a bit higher in Minneapolis but we also have friends and family there that are already ready to be roommates with us lol. In St. Louis, not so much.
At this point, it's likely going to be Minnesota over all others except Emory. That will be an excruciating decision if I have to pick. To be honest, I didn't expect to get in to Minnesota so this is going to be rough. But a problem that I am so grateful to have!
St. Louis. I honestly have no idea whether that's warmer than SE Michigan. It's further south than here, but we also have a nice layer of insulation. Hmm...
Just wanted to pass along the good news. I've been absent from here because I've been working on grad school apps for months.
I got in to my first grad program . It's an MPH program in Biosecurity and Disaster Preparedness. It's unique and the rest of my apps are for International Health with an emhasis on Women's health (or vice versa).
