I don't understand the criticism for Gabbys appearance or the backlash against Lolo Jones, either. It's really idiotic. I saw that one newspaper had a poll whether one of their swimming favorites was getting too fat. Ridiculous.
These young people spend YEARS of their life for the privilege of hopefully competing for their country. They don't have to do it. Their families often face financial hardship along the way, just so their sons or daughters can wear their team colors.
They have my total respect.
(And yes, I am very excited that daughter will be with Romani's cousin next year!)
People criticizing Gabby's hair and the fact that she's wearing a pink uniform? Give me an f*ing break. Gabby, and all of our athletes, look beautiful and I wish them nothing but the best.
I second that emotion.

My cousin (who plays with SLS' d... small world!) was at the water polo events. There's a pretty good pic of her with the GB male gymnasts on fb. She said they were very very nice.
I've had the pleasure of knowing Allison Schmitt for quite a few years. She is really one of the happiest, most bubbly people you'll ever meet. A true sweetheart. We are all very proud of her and we are celebrating for her in our home city.
I love watching the Olympics. However, I am absolutely disgusted by some of the coverage. People criticizing Gabby's hair and the fact that she's wearing a pink uniform? Give me an f*ing break. Gabby, and all of our athletes, look beautiful and I wish them nothing but the best.
Anyone watching?
Pretty excited to see all the swimming, diving, gymnastics and water polo.
Our women's water polo got their first Gold medalyesterday. So proud of them. Over the years, my daughter has been fortunate to have been coached/mentored by several former Olympians in water polo for her club teams and she has met so many of these fine young women who just got their Gold. They are pretty amazing, in and out of the water. One of the club coaches had a habit of bringing a girl from National team to a club practice, have the club girls learn some skills and listen to the national team girl talk about something they thought was important. Whether it was ther mom setting up subliminal cds to listen to while sleeping telling them they could be champions or to achieve in classroom, what they drank after every workout and game (chocolate milk, not gatorade!) or just funny stories about suit malfunctions in water, it helped inspire this group of girls to reach for bigger things, both academically and in the pool.
Sports often get a bad rap, which is a shame. They have given my girl child so much. This fall, one of these awesome Olympians is going to coach at my daughter's college. It is a huge thrill - just a few years ago, she got this woman's autograph on a ball. In a few weeks, she will be getting a whole lot more.
