Lol. Interesting history lesson... I knew he was born in Mexico but I always thought it was assumed that those born abroad were natural born citizens if at least one parent was. I forget that the way things are not might not always have been that way :p. Not that it's here or there, but I have always hated the idea that you had to be born here to be president. America was essentially built on the idea that you could escape here and be anything... anything except president. I would like to see that change in my lifetime. Not high on my priority list though.
On an entirely unrelated note, that link (for me at least) shows a tracker of the states for the Obama/Romney match up. It has Michigan as a toss-up. IMO, Michigan is not really a toss up at all. It will go Dem I believe. The Republicans that control the Michigan government are ridiculously far right, low in support, and there is a lot of disapproval with Snyder as well. I don't mind Snyder all that much tbh. He did help get the economy back on track- there is no denying that and in many ways I applaud his economic policies. However, House and Senate Republicans have done some mighty unpopular things lately- whether I agree with them or not. I actually agree with Snyder about the bridge, even though the general public hates it to an incredible smear campaign by Moron Moroun who own the Ambassador Bridge. I digress. The new anti-abortion bill is too far right for the majority of voters, the ban on same-sex benefits for government workers was pretty unpopular, slashes in funding to the schools and universities (and what they've tried to hold over the universities) have been met with pretty unanimous disapproval, etc. The ONLY way Romney will win Michigan is if he plays up his "ties" to the state. It'll be interesting, that's for sure. Michigan hasn't been a "battleground" state in my lifetime far as I can remember.
Michigan could very well have been a battleground state for Romney considering he's "from" here. I think the Republicans in power here though may have screwed it up for him royally. Like I said, it'll be interesting. *straps in seatbelt*
So what does the Consitution say on who can be President?
George Romney was a candidate for Pres although he was naturalized citizen. [I am old enough to remember GR. I could not understand why the ex-head of American Motors would/could stand for the R nomination. I mean, American Motors where crap of a car, even their Jeep brand was crap.]
