I saw that clip on Sunday's politics. I thought the punch-line was, the dog's lipstick tasted better. . His rendition gave me all types of mental images, now that was funny. Pittbulls don't smell gamey.
. It is even funnier to read the reactions of the idiots who simply didn't get the joke and are still trying to make it about Sarah Palin.
The joke landed with a thud in the room. Even Michelle shook her head and looked confused. The problem was that it had a vague sexual connotation. He was comparing a hockey mom (i.e. Palin) and a pitbull, and said the pitbull was delicious (implying the hockey mom was not). The camera panned the audience reaction for quite a while and most people were bewildered. There very muted uncomfortable laughter, what there was of it. The response rattled Obama and threw him off his game a bit for the rest of it.
Yeah, I'm sure it came as a shock to O when doing his audio recording of DFMF that he had once eaten dog meat.
I'm not sure I believe he ate dog meat. Muslims don't eat dog and he was living in a Muslim area. I think Bill Ayers put that in there for literary reasons.
Yes, this is the 6th topic I've started. Applause! Applause!
Greta Van Susteren invited Kim and Lindsay.
The "delicious pitbull" joke was actually a very well written joke. Everyone thought it was going in one direction - dissing Sarah Palin - but it went in a completely different direction, having nothing to do with Sarah Palin. (Except that she is one that has been talking about eating dogs) The reaction was delayed because it took a dogleg turn - pun intended. His delivery was perfect and I thought it was hysterical. It is even funnier to read the reactions of the idiots who simply didn't get the joke and are still trying to make it about Sarah Palin.
Can't help you on understanding the Lohan/Kardashian invites.
I did read today that O is winning back the Hollywood crowd, though, after having gone through some rough patches with them. His connection to George Clooney seems to be a big deal for him.
I wasn't going to broach the subject of the dog eating but since cartera mentioned it first (and started a thread, too!) ....
I suspect he joked about it because it's a little faux pas that stands a good chance of turning into a real drag, given it's a bottomless well for mocking humor.
The parts I saw were pretty entertaining. The President has a good delivery. I didn't like Seth Myers last years, he is sort of a butt kisser. Kimmel came across better than usual.
I watched the entire thing (state of my life recently). Thought the toilet flushing preceding Obama was pretty crass (sort of like half the audience in attendance last night). The President had his great timing, as usual, but lost his footing at the Sarah Palin joke (what's the difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull? A pit bull is delilcious). Some weird connotations people were obviously trying to wrap their heads around --i.e. he's tasted hockey moms? The cameras panned the audience for a long time after that joke, and even got Michelle's reaction--not good. The response seemed to fluster him (he looked unsettled), and knocked him off his game for the remainder of his presentation.
But both he and Kimmel had a lot of funny stuff. I lol'd at a few of Kimmel's jokes, especially the one that went something like: "remember when we were promised hope and change? Now that was hilarious."
Here is a good wrap up of it.I'm a big Jimmy Kimmel fan, but I thought the President had the best jokes of the night. I hadn't anticipated that "doggiegate" would be a winner.
