Amended to say- of course they matter, but not when it comes to the election campaign (sadly).

Sg: the technicalities don't matter. It's the perception that counts. That somehow gov't under Obama has run amuck. Very bad timing for o .

so good of you to concur to mainstream America. (don't know if you ever went away or even if you were in this camp.)

However, the R's have boxed themselves into a pretty tight box.

hope - The country doesn't need more taxpayer funds. It needs to spend less. The bozos on the Hill propose cuts that are minuscule and tax hikes that aren't going to make any difference. As I've said before, the compromise is obvious: raise everyone's taxes (including some of the 50% that don't pay income tax) by maybe 1-2%, and slash spending. And it has to come from everywhere, including the "non-discretionary spending" or whatever they like to call it. Medicare, Medicaid, Society Security, and Interest account for ALL of the federal government's revenue. Not even room to spend ANYTHING on defense and balance the budget the way we are running the country right now. Defense needs to be cut (It pains me to say this as someone that is interning in an office with open billets that wants to hire me, but they can't because of a hiring freeze). But obviously it cannot be cut to zero.

I have generally accepted that there will not really be retirement for people my age (mid 20s) as the US will be forced to inflate away the debt at some point, making anything we have saved worthless. We also will not be getting back what we pay into social security.

That said, I am not ready to say the Secret Service is something we should be spending less on.

Romney should campaign as someone who knows how to deal with unruly kids,

Absolutely agree. Best tactic to take.

So much of the O administration is amateur hour. Were it not for the MSM consistently covering for him, it's possible the upcoming election could be a landslide.*

*In favor of Mitt!

Anyone been watching the GSA hearings?  There seems a lot out of control about the Obama administration.  Romney should campaign as someone who knows how to deal with unruly kids, having raised five boys, because that's what we have within the current administration.

I understand that the Maldives kerfluffle was in a prepared speech.  Were the proofreaders partying with hookers, too?

Like everything else in the media, you never know what is fact or fiction.  In this case, those Secret Service and advance military WILL lose their jobs and careers over this.  However, before you are quick to judge, remember that it's one person's word against another's in this situation.

Sound familiar?

These are allegations at this time.  They may be bigger or smaller than the media suggests when all the facts come out.  It does make for salacious headlines, though.  Good headlines make good rankings.

They are also a distraction for a political campaign, thus let the scapegoating begin!

True, but democrat's abiding belief is that government is the answer . When government is not doing its job , it weakens obama's case for needing more taxpayer funds, no ?

obviously, the Secret Service issue is not his fault. That said, all of those agents should be losing their security clearances, and therefore their jobs.
