bd- I agree, not a bad option at all. Birth control should be split IMO. I've never understood the whole "make the man pay for the condoms" thing. Maybe that's just common among my generation??
I've been on CC entirely too much lately. I guess that's what happens when I'm glued to my couch because of March Madness.
"busdriver - I gave my over the top response after the way the OP treated romani... I said the bf should chip in for the birth control, since in another thread I heard it was expensive. No one posted anymore after me though, so I successfully killed the thread, hahaha."
Oh now, that is a hilarious response! I missed that one. And hey, not a bad option since the cost can creep up on you. As long as you didn't say chip in for an abortion, that would have been really tacky.
my reply in the PM box: MaineLongHorn, Teriwtt, Chedva, Roger_Dooley
"If you think that this post refers to CC Moderators, you are mistaken. The thread is about "So...Why are people so difficult to live with?" If you read my interpretation, 'weird' is spelled with 'ei' where the rule is, "I before E, except after C, or when sounded as A, as in neighbor or weigh" (Wiki) and weird is not a true exception. id est, The rule maker breaks the rules.
Since you asked, IMO, either Moderators, moderate or they don't. And they look foolish when they don't abide by their own rules.
Come on, Cost of Contraception has 543 posts, 15,812 view, as of midnite, March 10, in 8 days. Does anyone think that they can make a convincing argument? Apparently, yes, because posters are still making the same argument I heard in the early 60's when I was in puberty. I am Normal, everyone else is 'weird'.
I am not questioning moderators actions, as you put it. I am questioning , Inaction whether it be from parents and their children, Regulators vs regulatee (debt balloon), Congress vs President, and of moderators and posters.
I have been on this forum since late 2003. Time you kill me off.
You happen to be the, Fink-of-the-Day [MLH]. Ain't it great that other mods past this post, Only you get the duty of giving me a warning.
All the best,
Sincerely hope all issues are resolved with your sons.
MLH didn't like my post, as cited. And gave me a final warning.

I then proceeded to make "report problem posts" on about 5 people on the Rush Limbaugh/BC thread. Stating that the posts were Political, Religious, or Inflamatory.

I always thought of myself as normal and everyone else, 'weird' (another example where 'weird' people made a 'weird' spelling rule.) Students who ask about 'prestige' are 'weird' because normal people have already answered the question of prestige vs whatever they want to make a comparison. As for being a medirator on a forum, that is also 'weird', who would want to make judgement on something/someone when they themselves don't follow their published rules? I am Normal.

The jewelry box is a good idea. Even if she doesn't wear jewelry, you can rarely go wrong with something handmade- especially wood work which takes so much time. Plus, they can be used for other things, not just jewelry. I also think it'll only be trashed, like one poster said, if he does something to really bad to her (cheats, etc). Most break-ups wouldn't lead to things being destroyed.
And from her first post: "Trying to help out my friends son."
Although later it does kinda sound like she's talking about her own son.
I reread my posts. Maybe they came off as a bit blunt, but I really never meant to be rude.
Yeah, romani, that was weird. She took such offense, and you were absolutely right. I got the feeling that this is one of those, "I am a very important person and you will all treat me with respect!" How dare you disagree with her. Man, some people are sooooo looking to take offense. I really wanted to write something over the top and obnoxious, but I was able to restrain myself. Hilarious how she acted like the more thoughtful suggestions had lead her son to decide to make the girlfriend a jewelry box. And not a single person had suggested that. Nor had a single person suggested he make something himself.
On another note, I found that some of my posts were deleted on the LMU thread. I'd had a couple hours layover there, and went running through the campus to check it out (kiddo applied there). I mentioned that I was a little freaked out by the conformity, that 99 out of 100 girls were all wearing boots. In Southern California. Lots of diversity, but honestly I was a little creeped out by such conformity in dress. Dressing the same is kind of like high school, and just seems odd to me. I said it nicely, and all comments on that were deleted. Give me a break!
When I said "ask her friends". I know... the horror! And it wasn't even her son, it was her friend's son IIRC! Sorry, but as a college women, I would have been pissed if my boyfriend got me half of those things. He did the smart thing- he asked my friends and I've never gotten a bad gift from him.
In the 5 years I've been on CC, that was the first time I had ever been called rude. It caught me off guard lol.
romani - I know you are a partisan hack. I saw it on display when you oh so rudely insulted that poster about what her child should get his bf for her birthday.... hahahahahahaha
also I got censored for asking if George Hugeuly's dad missed the sentencing b/c he was drunk... then I mentioned that i got censored in the thread, and I got a warning via PM from MaineLongHorn
I have never said or thought of you as a "partisan hack."
You seem to be an extremely intelligent young lady, fully capable of understanding other pov's; on the other hand, forgive me, but you don't seem to have much tolerance for them.
I've been hearing about zoos since I was back on CC. She is always pointed to by the libs on the board as someone they can "agree to disagree with," which supposedly proves their tolerance. She is the kind of person who has the patience to word her posts very carefully so as not to offend them.
I am of a different personality: I take umbrage at the notion that conservatives should have to band over backwards to placate the libs, when they are allowed to say whatever they want.
Yep there are a few token conservatives on CC who are tolerated. Most not social conservatives, and most who agree with gay marriage.
I would take zoose at her word the same way I would take lasma. Different povs, both reputable posters. I don't take newbies on either side at their word. I take issue with your repeated implications that I'm some sort of partisan hack.
There's no greater sin on CC than to say you believe in chastity/abstinence.
I had a personal correspondence back in the day on CC with two young women who were mercilessly ridiculed by "tolerant" CC parents for their beliefs regarding their own personal sexuality.
Who wouldn't be defensive with that crowd and avoident when pounced on.
I wonder if you are more apt to "take some people at their word" than others, depending on their pov.
I'd take what FWM with a grain of salt considering he was defensive from the onset.
Not sayin' he's lying, but I wouldn't take it for gospel.
Especially since he kept avoiding everything people were asking him. I hope he's not actually getting hate mail, but I have learned not to take people at their word.
A poor kid names FutureWeatherman who stated he believes people should not have sex until marriage over on the present BC thread:
I am done! Getting alot of hate mail, with people calling me names, uncalled for. I believe I did say that it's unneeded to call people names to get a point across. Because of this, I'm leaving this convo. Peace to All!!!
You know these kinds of conversations on CC make me sad, because a lot of kids are reading...and they are getting a really distorted view of educated grownups.
The celebrity tweeters are the ones that really get me. Time and time again, you read where one has tweeted something salacious to their multitude of followers only to retract, but it's too little too late. I imagine a lot of it is TWI...tweeting while intoxicated . It's even crazy how that boardreader site keeps a record of deleted threads from public message boards. If I can find something like that with a quick Google search, I can only imagine what someone can do who has some real computer savvy.
Just in the last week I have checked my gmail account privacy settings, as well as my Facebook privacy settings. I used to get coupons online at my local grocery store, but then that kind of creeped me out.
I don't even look at the Target mobile coupons they send me - not because I don't like to save money, but I don't like how much they know about what I want to buy on a weekly basis. Lately, I am figuring that they are going to be targeting me for Mucinex, Kleenex and cough syrup, cat food and orange juice.
The extreme couponers must really confuse the retailers.
Not that I have any PMs that you'd be interested in reading, Sam, but I have no doubt whatsoever regarding your integrity. But, is it paranoia if they really are after you?.. lol
I read the thread about Target targeting their customers through their credit card purchases. It's an important reminder that, while technology is grand, we do leave a trail.
Wow. i have heard about this multiple times and paranoia has run rampant for years at CC about it. Still, it's unsettling.
I have no interest in trying to do that here - in fact moderation is my least favorite part of being the admin on this board. I am much happier participating in discussion than moderation of discussion!
That's a good warning, longprime. A forum administrator can add a plug-in to the code to read private messages on some boards. Here are a few discussions regarding the deception that private messages are indeed "private" and ways to get around that pesky word - private.
PM's on CC can be reviewed, censored or deleted by their moderators.
After a two week time out because of calling CC mods inattentive of their responsibility, I am back on and decided to cleanout the PM box. If you are a poster with a history of calling crap as crap, be careful of PM's.
