He won't get the nomination IMO. Way too socially conservative for the independent voter. Most independents aren't going to go for someone who is anti-birth control (not even abortion, just birth control!), someone who has kind of attacked working mothers (whether he believes what he said or not is one thing, but he has said quotes to this effect that will be used against him), has said some subtly racist things (again, another area where his quotes will bite him), etc. It's just not going to fly in a general election. When it comes down to it, people will generally vote on economic issues but they're not going to vote for someone who's greatly at odds with their moral or social beliefs either. They could vote for someone who's moderately conservative if they agree with their economic policy, but not someone who is this far to the right. Just my 2 cents.
