The tax code allow for choice for doing your taxes using paper,  using a tax program, or using a tax preparer. evileye

Our Congress also has given you a choice in selecting your marginal tax bracket. evileye

Cutting the tax code to a few pages virtually admits to be communistic. US people value individualism and choice as God Given. Some companies and endeavors should also be favored as Good-for-America. evileye

true.

I do think there needs to be multiple tax brackets though. I don't really know what they should be. I am open to the ideas behind the Fair Tax too, but mostly I think they need to cut the tax code down to a few pages. There is no reason normal Americans should be paying H&R block to fill out their tax forms.

your sample example shows that the wealthy will still pay the disappropiate share of taxes. and disencourage the smarter people to strive for more accomplishment-pay-to be job creators.

the gotchya is that without loopholes, the congresspeople will not be able to reward their biggest donors.

There is no reason (IMO) that the tax code should be more than a few pages (maybe 10-ish) of text.

You could even do it on one page, something like:

30k - 5%
40k - 6%
50k - 7%
60k - 8%
70k - 9%
80k - 10%
100k - 12%
200k - 15%
500k - 20%
5000k - 25%
10000k - 30%
100000k - 35%

I have no idea what kind of revenue this would generate, but it would be very simple and the numbers can obviously be tweaked. I would consider allowing only 1 deduction: for donations to 501c3 organizations.

I'm all for reforming the tax code as partially proposed by the R/TP-D's.

Boehner/Ryan/& others, proposes that the the code be revised to eliminate the loopholes, lower the tax brackets, which will supposedly raise more taxes and broaden the tax base by having more people pay taxes.

what are the gotchya's?evileye
