So it turns out that more democrats than republicans didn't show up.  But Mr. Obama still had a nice audience for his ego trip.

Who saw Jay Carney unintentionally tell the truth when he said "President Obama said it was time to put party before country?"  Funny as all hell.

I didn't miss out. He said he would pay for it but then said the group of 12 would be the ones who pay for it. It sounds like the group of 12 will make the cuts and then Obama will take credit for it and use some of their "savings" to pay for his pet project.

Buffett receives capital gains and his secretary receives a salary which is ordinary income and taxed at a higher rate. Buffet could easily take a salary and pay a significantly higher tax rate. It's a B.S. argument.

Razor, you must have missed how it will be paid for he stated that Congress must cut 1.5 trillion by Xmas, now he wants them to cut 2 trillion, on top of the already 1 trillion...gee is it me, wasn't Cantor a few month ago saying we need to cut 3-4 Trillion, and the media went berserk?

To me the shocking thing was when he said we can't sustain Medi-Care and need to re-work it.

I also chuckled with the Congress when they chuckled about Warren Buffet's secretary. Seriously anyone who follows politics and understand the tax system knew he was pandering.

Haha ok. Sorry, guess things don't always translate well over the internet.

It's just fun, roman. I look at everyone's outfits. I loved Hillary's pantsuit and accessories tonight--very appropriate.  I'm not a fashionista by any means and I don't follow fashion among actresses, etc. at all, but for some odd reason I love to watch how female politicos and male politicos and their wives dress, as well other women in power (maybe because I don't have any!).  Bachmann's nails were driving me crazy at the debate last night, for example. disbelief And...it does matter.

@long- That lack of paying back student loans sure would be nice ;). Can we wait til I'm done with grad school though?

@hope- I still don't really see what it matters what the First Lady wears. Who gives a ****? People have different taste in clothes.

The shiny, sleeveless, skin-tight purple dress with a sparkly belt was not appropriate attire for the first lady at this evening's speech. I cringed (as usual) when she entered the room. Perhaps she got confused and thought she was going to a ****tail party. Not the first time, either. I don't get it--other than perhaps she likes to stick it to the establishment, completely ignoring that her husband presently is the establishment.

The President looked great, though.

Razor, The Pres asked to special deficit reduction committee to find reductions in the future, to pay for the program.

Consequences.

1. the Committee does not find reductions. Resulting in across the board cuts.

2. IF the committee finds the reductions, and the economy does not respond to deficit reductions, we'd be no worse off, even worse off (meaning deficit reduction kills growth), or we'd be better off (deficit reduction does work). I'm for 2 of 3 choices.

3. Do nothing...Economy spontaneously and miraculously rebounds. Economy continues to tank and deficit balloons because there are even fewer jobs and  tax revenues.

Perhaps you can see other alternativesevileye

Ron Paul, (CNN/PiersMorgan 09/08/11 was posed the question) "we are currently bankrupt and must recognize that fact. evileye  Visualize it, Pres Ron Paul repudiates all USA debt both foreign and domestic. Does that mean this family won't have to pay back the student loans? evileye

Can't watch it- no tv in apartment. I'll watch it online later. I completely forgot about it actually. I never remember to watch anything political when I don't have constant ads bombarding me.

The President's speech was just a campaign speech. Pretty sad. He claims it will be paid for. Sorry, I don't believe it.

Of course it was not necessary. In fact it was a tacky comment about a tacky dress. It's also referred to as a comment made in bad taste. After watching so many people comment on Bachmann's appearance and no one objecting but me, I figured its about time I get to comment on people's appearance.

But since you objected and you are right, I will withdraw my comment about Michelle Obama's physical appearance. Her dress on the other hand, I have to double up on that comment. If she does not win the worst dressed woman in America this year, I will be outraged.

Was that really necessary, Razor? I'd never thought you'd be someone to talk negatively about someone, especially not even the elected official him/herself, just because of a physical characteristic.

Maybe Michelle Obama scared them off. Did you see her dress when she walked to her seat? Tacky purple. It just showed off her gigantic rear end. It's time for some fruits and vegetables for her.

WTF?

Are ALL the R's afraid of the TP's?

I don't get it.  Even in the waning years of W, the R's stood solidily behind their leader, (W was silent on the Bailouts-TARP)  W was expansionist and advocated deficit spending.

Oh they got Obama's number, and more power to 'em.

Remember when O dissed Roberts and Alito? I think that was at a State of the Union? Unheard of. Or, when after all his lecturing about civility, he treated Paul Ryan like an interloper? It's no use trying to be civil and respectful to Obama at this point--he has no interest in doing anything but lecture the other side in being civil. The rules don't apply to him. Yesterday proved it once and for all. You have to earn respect. Obama has not done so.

Just when I thought the R's got it, they prove to me they don't.

Fact is it is disrespectful to not attend.  I don't care if Obama sings Yankee DOodle Dandy, you go and give him the respect owed to the office.

If I was a Presidential candidate I would get on the phone and tell them unless you want to lose the 12 election you get your butt in the chair and smile for the cameras!  Americans are tied of this BS DC politics.

You know I think we really do need a female president that is a Mom because all we have to say is 1 of 2 things:

1. I am going to count to 3 and you better...

2. Don't make me come up there!

Dad says it and the kids are like... 4 biggrin or so you come up here now what!  They never play that crap when it is the Mom.no
