They left up Mini's thread on welfare and drug testing which was obvious dig at Florida's republican governor but took down Poet's thread on 9/11 which was about as non-political as you can get unless you are a Taliban.
The thread I started on the Science Channel's programming on the ground zero rebuilding efforts appears to have disappeared, too. I don't get it. It wasn't political in the least, and I mean at all---unless someone posted something political on it between late last night and sometime today. I was very careful to stay out of the Spidey "free speech" thread altogether. I knew that one was bound for poofville, and I didn't even want to get caught up in it.
Must be shut down...can't take any chances some reader out there might catch "the conservative!"
Multiple screenname thread disappeared fast! Sitting at home today while my son packs for college, I caught the question by Razorsharp whether mods are allowed multiple screen names. First they replied that the mods are allowed to do so with permission, then they must've realized how ridiculous that appeared and just shut the thing down. Couple of interesting admissions and queries before that time, though.
C'est amusant, as that pretentious, multiple-screennamed mod might put it!
I participated for a while. Now I am just lurking. I have about 36 hours left of free time before I go back to work, and I am trying to clean out and paint one of the rooms that is long overdue!
Every time I go back and read it, I get incensed but am trying to avoid participating. It does, indeed, get old.
It's typical of what happened during the 2008 elections. Still not cool.

ROFL poetsheart. Yeah, I'm sure they are too busy. If this thread doesn't encapsulate the entire attitude of CC mods, I don't know what does.
<"Spideygirl- you seem really frustrated that no one here besides sewhappy seems to agree with you. Oh well! Are we quashing your free speech, or just expressing a different view?">
"No one here besides sewhappy" posting proves in their miniscule minds that there are not legions of others who disagree with them, but either out of boredom, disgust, or something else can't be bothered to post. It gets seriously old.
Has anybody been reading the thread started by Spidey on the "quashing" of free speech rights in America? It's gotten pretty heated and partisan, and it's still going strong. I guess the mods are too busy dealing with the hurricane in their areas to pay attention to that one...
razorsharp said the Michele/Michelle butt comment was fine, because they were talking about the appearances of politicians. But is Obama's wife a politician? Not directly, though she does support him. If she counts, then I think someone should be making comparisons between her and, oh, Nancy Reagan or Barbra Bush.
Spideygirl started a thread on Obama's hair (not political). Razorsharp countered with a funny bit on the fact that Michele Bachman only has 1 L in her name and a smaller butt, but Michelle Obama has two L's and a bigger one. Funny.
Here is razorsharp's response, lest it be deleted by the powers that be:
Nice job with judging women on their body shapes and sizes there. Way to go. That's exactly what this country needs, more judgment on women's bodies.
Yep, bingo, we have a winner.
I am just guessing here but I sort of suspect your point is exactly why the OP started this thread on Pres. Obama's looks -- to counter the obvious sexism of the thread on Michele Bachmann's eyes. I made my comments about Mrs. Obama's giant rear end to echo that point. Of course, I declared my posts to not to be sexists and, thus, I cannot be accused of sexism. And I declared my posts not to be political just as the post on Michele Bachmann's eyes was not intended to undermine a candidate's chances of winning a party's nomination. Yes, I love this new rule that you get to declare your obviously political posts as not political and the CC world is again safe from political comments.

I didn't know TCBH had alts, though I do remember several trolls imitating him. He seems to be in HSL from time to time, though less often now. But then, most people are steadily being replaced by others I don't know. And even the ones I do know don't know who I am anymore... A pity. Well, I mean, except for the occasional "Are you Billy?" PMs I get, which usually stand a 50/50 shot of getting me banned. TCBH did my first alt in with one of those, but the second one (Edd) endured quite a few, only to be stalked for "language."
Yes, you cannot tell other people about the rules. But you must follow the rules. And you have to follow the mods. Even if they don't follow the rules. And you cannot tell other people about the mods. So it's like a shadow government (except that term sounds way too cool for them) that no one's allowed to talk about.
Oh, maple too. I can always find ThisCouldBeHeaven's new ones. I think he's done now though... he's never even on facebook anymore so I think college is eating all his time lol.
I will be interested to see if I get disciplined by morning. I'm sure it's in the TOS that you can't quote the TOS -.-
Ten Commandments of CC: 1. Thou shall not question the rule of the almighty mods. 2. Thou shall not use the terms of service against the almighty, infallible mods.
I can always spot two people's. One uses old tv/movie star names, one uses "maple" in the names. Though they have pretty distinct personalities, too.
I'm just disappointed that Trinity logged into this site again 5 hours ago and still hasn't posted. He even erased my last message I put on his whiteboard!
My current alt, DolorousEdd, is on a week-long ban (MaineLonghorn giving me like 4 language warnings, from cursing to "crazy eyes Bachmann"). Made a new alt with a proxy/new email, got banned/deleted after one post... Man, they're fast.
Just checked out that thread again. Maybe that discussion will finally get it closed, haha.
So we're talking about the TOS specifically saying that sexual references or nicknames are not allowed on the "girls are sluts" thread. Wonder how long this discussion will be allowed to go on. Heck, I might even get an infraction out of this. I've only ever been reprimanded by dove of war for language. I behave myself most of the time :)
I think a discussion of Michelle O's eyebrows would be very interesting (not political). I read somewhere she had to arch them differently because they were making her look mean (not political). lol
I honestly can't remember a time when sexual threads were killed (maybe I just didn't notice them?). I remember one chick who said rape victims deserved it, and it was on multiple threads. She still posts.
I don't know, it happened in HSL a lot, with the whole "family website" justification. Then again, this was usually after like 10+ pages.
And wow, that's screwed up. A woman would actually say that?
I honestly can't remember a time when sexual threads were killed (maybe I just didn't notice them?). I remember one chick who said rape victims deserved it, and it was on multiple threads. She still posts.
Well duh, billy. A thread calling girls sluts is obviously more relevant to College Life than who runs our country. Duh.
Assuming they're not still incapacitated by laughter at the terminology used by the OP, then it's really screwed up. Used to be that political discussions were allowed and sexual discussions were killed... I suppose when they banned politics, they had to unban something else?
The OP of that thread is a jackass, really. And the guy with the female condom thread isn't much better.
My alt account just got a week long ban for making a "Michelle Bachmann Crazy Eyes" comment on a thread in HSL ("watch your language" - MaineLonghorn is stalking me for infractions, all language ones, and now they don't even involve cursing!), yet an entire Crazy Eyes Bachmann thread is being allowed? I feel cheated.
Yes, Poetsheart. Many conversations without a seeming political bent do take on a political slant. They have cut off their nose, banning all political thought.
I understand it - but I still don't agree. We will never have what we had there. What a shame. Just not enough folks to post.
PH, the problem of CC and even this board is that they allow anyone under 30. Haven't you noticed, it's these youngsters who have little patience or tolerance or thought processes.

I don't understand how the powers-that-be over at CC make these decisions. Right now, for instance, a discussion about the S&P decision to downgrade the US's credit rating is several pages long, and became "political" from the outset. Sooner or later, of course, they will lock the thread, but their resolve to "not allow political discussions" often seems to vascilate. The problem, I think, is in the fact that so many topics have an intrinsic political component that directly affect just about every aspect of our daily lives; most certainly education policy, and educational/college costs (municiple, state, and not least of all, personal/family). So the political aspects of those issues will inevitably arise on a discussion board that has to take them into consideration in order to be relevant. Of couse, I wish they hadn't made the discision to shutter the politics forum. It got heated there, yes. But, it was also one of the only places on the internet where one could engage in thoughtful and intelligent (and for the most part, respectful) debate with people from diverse backgrounds and POVs. I use to learn a lot from reading those discussions, and often they caused me to have to stop and consider arguments that I'd not have done otherwise. In the end, I often came to take a more nuanced view on many, many topics, and I came to understand just how complex and multivarious the problems and issues we face today truly are. I wish I could find another forum that could do that for me. I almost feel like my IQ has fallen a few points since the CC political forum closed.
