Hi. I am here checking in. She is going back to the vet tonight. She can't keep anything down. Last night she was hungry and I fed her small amounts of white rice and ground beef. She did well for about 4 hours then threw it all up. I was looking at her today thinking she looked skinny. We'll see when they weigh her.

She is my baby and is pretty spoiled ;) I can't see how she was faking the leg. She never has had an injury before. Last time she was sick was 6 years ago when she got a UTI from staying in a kennel. That was the last time she was in a kennel.
She is as cute as her picture. I picked her up at the humane society when she was just over a year.

I am right now, fearing the worst. That she will 'need' something that costs $$$$$$$$$. ugh. One step at a time though.
I will post again after the vet tonight. Thanks for the support.

"But consider the doggie is probably loving all this attention from "Mommie"

I have the strongest feeling that the doggie gets all the attention she wants, reguardless. As cute as she is, you know she's spoiled rotten.

I had a dog that threw up for a couple of days, and when I took her an emergency clinic, they had to rehydrate her. They actually recommended over $1200 worth of blood tests, hospitalization, procedures for something they had no idea of what was wrong. I said no, not without any idea of what was wrong, she probably just ate something she disagreed with. But they insisted on rehydrating her, it was very important. She got better within a day.

I would not want to discourage you from getting what may be necessary medical attention for your beloved pet.

But consider the doggie is probably loving all this attention from "Mommie".

If a pigeon can learn to fake lameness to get more popcorn...

HaHa - I completely forgot that forums don't let you write out c*o*c*k*e*r spaniel!

She is better sort of. Her lameness completely vanished overnight. Not sure what that means but I am not convinced that one does of doxycycline would eliminate lameness due to lyme disease.

She is still periodically throwing up and is now off her feed. Last night she would sometimes accept and eat a treat and other times refuse to eat it.
I gave her the antibiotic anyway and she kept it down.
I am going to call the vet today - since I was supposed to check in anyway and go from there. I am thinking of changing. This is a new vet for her since her old vet moved away.
He really was condescending and spoke to me like I was 12. How annoying. My daughter asked me if I told him I was an animal science major in college - I did not but just let him go on. Maybe next visit I will let it slip - lol.

Thank for the support and letting me vent!

Kitty prozac? Isn't that a saucer of warm milk, or half and half for that special occasion?

We have two cats and two dogs , all somewhat but not excessively spoiled.
None are as cute as that "male chicken-er" spaniel.

Is that dog as cute in person or does the camera just love her?

I have seen it go all four ways;
Good picture, not so good live
Bad picture, good live
Great looking in person and on the page.
Well, we love little Floopsy but...

Kitty prozac? Oh my God, what next! No doubt your kitty also needs spa, massage and counseling services too for her sorrows? With a huge surcharge going to the office, no doubt.

One of our dogs (the black, tri-colored one) is surely schizophrenic, the other one is completely neurotic. They are both completely insane, but hilarious. The tri one is the most loving, snuggly dog you could ever imagine, but goes berserk at the sight of certain items, like pineapples, hats, odd shaped plants. So needless to say, we have indulged her by keeping plenty of those items around the house, that sometimes appear steathily in front of her. And a number of masks that we keep handy that my husband likes to wear occasionally. Totally makes her nuts, growling and barking. But if anyone else puts them on, it doesn't scare her at all. We finally realized that she thinks my husband is periodically possessed, and if she growls enough, she can chase the crazy out of him.

No doubt if these were kids, not dogs, HHSC would have removed them from the household long ago. But we live for our dogs, they are so spoiled, and always have been. I guess we're all just a little bit nuts.

I second that on another vet.  We had one that suggested that our cat was overgrooming because she was depressed and needed to go on kitty prozac.  I told her that was crazy and changed vets.

I hope the pooch feels better, soon.

Yes, that's the most adorable doggy ever.  Please go see another vet if she isn't feeling better yet.

Vets can be wrong. If you feel yours is wrong and you can't convince him/her to take you seriously, I would go elsewhere. A second opinion sure can't hurt. Nobody sees and loves your dog like you do, they make a 30 second diagnosis and off they go. My first vet was very nice and I liked her alot, but she couldn't seem to make accurate diagnosises very well. We went elsewhere, and the vet is much better.

Your dog is so cute, it is unreal. I hate to hear that poor little thing is sick.

Perhaps she has not yet apparent issues with the right rear that he noticed on examination. It's even possible that an issue with the right rear could cause overcompensation of the left front, leading to an injury. Of course, it's also possible that the dog injured her left front paw directly, even if nobody "saw." I'd call the vet about the vomiting and go over your concerns and questions before writing him off all together. It couldn't hurt to get another opinion if she is not all better soon. She's a real cutie.

Did it seriously just * out c-o-c-k? Wow, of all the weird words to blot.

I'm sorry. It's always hard when our doggies are sick and can't really tell us what's wrong. Have you tried going to another vet? It sounds like you should get a second opinion.

Keep us updated. Best of luck to you and your furry baby!

Yes, my avatar photo.  She is my 12 year old ****er spaniel.
I am so mad at the Vet I might fire him.

She has been in excellent health for years.  Nothing wrong at all.  Last Sat she started limping.  Clearly, it was the left front.  Sat am we woke up to a sheet of ice everywhere.  Poor thing had a hard time going out side to do her duty.
I think she slipped on the ice and snow and injured it.  I took her in Wed night.
First he told me it was her right rear.  I corrected him.
He said he doubted it since no one 'saw' her get hurt.  HUH??
Then said she has lyme disease.  Apparently lyme disease is the diagnosis of the day for vets now.
She popped a 1 on the instant test - out of 5.  Was running a fever so I agreed to put her on doxycycline since she may indeed have an infection, if not lyme.

She was much better yesterday!!  I fed her and gave her the meds and she promptly threw up.  This morning I fed her again and she threw up again.  Oh dear.
I don't think vomiting is a sign of lyme disease.
I will be playing doggie nurse this weekend........
