Poetsheart,

The day Sarah Palin resigned is the day that I said she will never be able to run for higher office, again.  Her opponents would put a picture of the press conference where she said she was resigning and the election would be over.  You lose your credibility as a person when your word cannot be taken seriously.

I am not a fan of voting for quitters.

Had she resigned to take care of family or a temporary health issue, I might have seen it differently.

It's awfully hard for me to trust a politician again, especially one that makes a move like this.  If Harman had even been one year into her two year term with this opportunity, I might have cut her some slack, but she vowed to serve and then got a better offer.

Fool me once...

Semantics, schemantics.  It is weeks since she swore her duty to represent her constituents for her 9th term.  Jobs like this don't come around every day. You think the vacancy just happened?  Did she know about it in the fall before the election?  Or before she was sworn in to represent us for another term?  That's my issue.

The good news is that she said she will stay for "several weeks" to transition.

Not sure what that means.  Maybe it will be two.  Or ten weeks.  Or who knows when.

Either way, this is going to cost the State of California a chunk of money it doesn't have. Of course, she is stinking rich, so perhaps she will just pay the tens of thousands it will cost for a new election.

This district is going to be redistricted for the next election.  No matter who wins on 2011 Special Election terms will face a completely different one in the next election.

12 weeks is "weeks".

2 weeks is "weeks".

197 weeks is "weeks".

Of course by this logic, the Age of Dinosaurs was only "weeks" ago.

I will be ready in several weeks
You are going to take a few months.
He will take a solid fraction of a year!

One is, well, "one".
Two is a "couple".
Three is a "few".
More than two can be "several", but not so many as to be , well, "many".
"Many" is entirely subjective.

When you realize that she was sworn in - again - January 5th for her two year term.

That would be weeks.  Barely 1 month.

Leaving her office three months after being elected is questionable. (But since when do we describe three months as "literally weeks"?)

She'll probably be replaced with someone more liberal than she is.

Representative Harman has been my Congresswoman for more than a decade.  She is a blue dog Democrat in a historically liberal district with a large amount of defense contractors.

She ran for reelection in November - and won.  I can't imagine what her challenger thinks, today.

She is announcing tomorrow that she is leaving to take over the Woodrow Wilson think tank.  It's bipartisan - not surprised about the move, but I am surprised that she is leaving us in a lurch.

I cast my vote for her because she has been an excellent elected Representative.  I think it's fairly horrible that she can run for the office and leave literally weeks after winning this seat.
