Iran became dependant upon us for critical componets. We are allowing China the same advantage we have over Iran.
If we give away the aerospace industry the same way we have many other sectors of the economy, who's jets will be sitting on the runway wiithout parts?

Remember the 35 is being sold to countries around the world including the Pacific. I think you put too much into China's ability and are forgetting it is pretty hard to get a shot off at us when we are stationed globally...SKorea, Japan, Germany, UK, etc. just for AF bases now add in Navy ships. Than add in our Intel regarding the military.
You are not giving enough credit to our fine military service members and how fast the military can react.
Be like Iran and tick us off and all you will have sitting on your runways are rusted out fighter jets with no spare parts to get them up in the air.
That is the big reason we sell to our friendlies, because they now have a financial investment to play nice.
The other is when we sell to them, they always get upgrades after we have already upgraded again, so in case they don't behave we have a technological advantage.
Seriously give me the scenario of why China would ever attack us? Financially they own us now and will for decades, so by starting a war all they would accomplish is what?
If I was really worried about any country attacking us it would be Russia, because of Putin. For them it is a nothing loss situation.
When there is nothing to be lost that is when you take the greatest risks.

We haven't reacted to the economic threat. Quislings within our own ruling elite have been instrumental in China's rise.
Will we react to the military threat in an era of austerity?
If you won't or can't fight, you lose.
Its just that simple.
Not this year or next year, but within ten years, they will be able to "take" us. Our military is gearing up to suppress insurgents. We will be well prepared for the previous war. Just like always.
An ICBM that can hit a carrier totally obviates that resource.

The Chinese's new fighter is not on the same level of the 35. It is a gen 4, the 35 is a gen 5.
From another forum, but the author of the post is Bullet, who works at the Pentagon
As to China's reasons for this rather public display of their high speed taxi tests? Well, just speculation here, but the SECDEF arrives in China this weekend, at the same airport this bird is currently parked at. Not-so-subtle message for when he steps of the flight stairs and this bird is sitting on the taxiway across from him. Sort of like: "Look what we can do". I can only hope his response to that statement is "not much".
