I don't believe there will be a major Democratic challenger to Obama's reelection bid.
I have no idea who the GOP will be fielding - it could be someone young with little pragmatic experience which could bite them in the ass, or it could be one who has run for President before.
Quote from the article: He wants to amend the Constitution both to ban abortions and to allow marriage only between men and women. /Quote
Kiss-of-Death Exhibit A. He'll never get enough independent voters to sign on for these (apparently) major planks in his platform. I'd certainly never vote for him. Why do some conservatives believe the general social zeitgeist is moving right in this country?
Let's be real, nobody thought Obama would be President back in 06, yet, there he sits in the Oval office. It is still too early to make any assumptions.
That being said I don't really see a strong contender for the R's. It kind of reminds me of the 96 when they put up Dole as the R's nom.

Everyone here is laboring under the delusion that an intellectual deficit is a bad thing politically.
The populist backlash against the ruling elite may become so bad that this is actually a plus.
To beat a worn drum; How did a housepainter/military private become Chancellor of Germany? Germans saw that their traditional elite had failed, miserably and totally, and wanted a change.
Things are much worse than they are being depicted in the popular media and by government.

That's why we elected a Columbia/Harvard schooled lawyer in our last election?

Juan Williams (he of the unfortunate NPR debacle) is right when he says that the GOP field is incredibly weak. The few contenders with any brains have a charisma deficit, while the one with the blazing star power is one of the stupidest public figures in American history.
Romney is fairly charismatic. Certainly moreso than the Democratic contenders of yesteryear like Gore/Kerry.

Among Democrats, Pence has the reputation of being dim, with little understanding of the policies he advocates. "Earth-shattering ignorance and stupidity" is the terminology sometimes employed.
