Glad to hear I'm not the only one feeling crazy about these kids! For the younger one especially, it's that almost there, but NOT quite mature quality that's a killer!

Maybe because we feel like we don't have any control anymore. We can lecture forever and it does exactly zip. Makes me crazy. When they were little, we at least had the illusion of control. My youngest got a job here for the summer, so he is at home (yay), and I keep getting the overwhelming urge to pick him up in my arms and cuddle him like he was four. I don't think he would go for that, plus I would probably topple over. But I miss the days when he was just a little guy and appreciated me so much. He is very tolerant of me, but I'm pretty sure that will soon turn to irritation.

Why is parenting twenty-somethings so much harder and more painful than parenting toddlers ever was.

Ok, I searched high and low. No mention of Michelle doing any reading.

That gift to the Pope of seeds from the White House garden though...how nifty is that.  confuse

Sunday  made a quick trip to coast. A great flock of geese arrived at Baskett Slough NWR (probably from Finley NWR) . Geese at the coast were anxious. Monday nite we had  a small storm with gusty wind from the  south. They are all gone, till October.

Great Vee's of Canadian Geese are forming in mid valley Oregon. Some smaller Vee s are moving northward. BD 11 watch the flyways and approaches.

Well they started it back up.

Insurance is paid from premiums not taxes. Welfare is paid from taxes and usually has an entitlement component namely that if you quality based on income and/or assets you are entitled to the government benefit. Medicaid is not health insurance because it is not paid from premiums, it is paid from taxpayer dollars. Insurance involves a pooling of risks that is reflected in the premiums charged. Medicaid involved a redistribution of wealth from those who with higher incomes to those with no or limited incomes and assets.

Calling Medicaid welfare instead of insurance is important because of the political implications. If people think they are receiving insurance instead of a handout, they often feel more entitled to the benefits. Politicians justify its expansion because is is merely insurance.

It is similar to the change in language that occurred in the 90s. Spending on schools, etc. is no longer a government expenditures it is now an "investment." I know pretty well what is an investment and I have never seen the government make an investment. The government makes government expenditures. Now you see every politician claiming to make an investment when in fact he or she is just spending someone else's money.

I've been off the thread for the last several hours, what shut it down? Was it talking about dstark's sex life and the birth control issue? Well, maybe they'll shut it for a day and reopen it again with a warning. The mods can't leave that thread for too long, because it goes too far off topic and gets political. I'm sure something else will be started soon. I just couldn't keep up, you leave for a day and there are 200 posts to read.

ACA compliant plans are health insurance, whether on or off exchanges.

Medicaid is free medical plans for those who cannot afford conventional health insurance due to income.

obviously, there is a huge difference in opinion about Medicaid and whether or not they are entitlements.

Once upon a time, I was trying to get health insurance when I was young and single and not married yet but no maternity insurance. I made too much to qualify for plan, but not enough to afford it or much else. Found myself in that gray area that many are finding themselves in, now. It is not a good place to be.

RS, call ACA whatever you want to call it. It is insurance. Some will understand it and some won't. It may not be a net-sum yet but hopefully it will get there. For many it will unshackle the benefit handcuffs that binds people to their stifling jobs.

I think CC elections board closed on a circumcision thread.

Seems kind of hilarious that after all that, birth control and talking about sex did it for the ACA thread.

Someone finally close the I love Obamacare thread (also called the Affordable Care Act Scene 2 thread). It should have been closed a long time ago because is is nothing but politics but since it was started by a mod, I guess it gets to go on longer than anyone else's thread. I have to wonder what dstark will do now?  I sitll cannot believe calmom does not know that Medicaid is welfare and not insurance.

I am able to start a new topic, but not a new Forum.

We are all still posting on the Is It 2012 Already forum, which seems somewhat out-of-date.

Does Michelle Obama read books? I remember people asking Laura Bush what she read, I remember her mentioning Thomas Mallon one time. Apparently as a former librarian she was an avid reader. Has anybody come across an article about what Michelle reads? All I see are articles about where she likes to eat out in DC.  I'd love to know what she's bringing along to read n her trip to China.

I just looked at CC, and noticed they still have posts from the Election and Politics section going back to 2008! Why? Isn't that odd? I'm pretty sure I was already banned by then, but ...very strange, no? So odd to see the names of some of the old-time classic posters such as Marite.

Speaking of which, any chance we can get a 2016 Election topic going here, Ms. Moderator?  :). Investing just doesn't do it for me, sorry LP !!
