it depends, of course... if aliens came at any time in the near future, we would definitely be wiped out if they wanted us to be. Our best hope is perhaps that we pose zero threat to any race that is zooming around space from star to star or galaxy to galaxy.
I think the Almighty has sent us a message that we should get our stuff together. The coincidence of both meteorite that did cause minor damage and comet that could have caused big damage, happening on the same day is about of plausible as the Improbability drive and the existence of God.
Who knows, we may have to defend our selves against Martians, Bugs, Aliens, and Predators. We could be Something's dinner.
