I think I did know about military in FL, I just didn't connect the dots.

I agree with revamping the primary system (and the voting system in general...). I think it exposes some major holes in our system. Not just in Florida but in a lot of other states as well. Oy.

romanigypsyeyes,

Sorry I am late to respond, but FL is a huge military. Pensacola, Whiting, Hurlburt, McDill, and Eglin come to mine.

On top of that FL., TX and AK have no state tax so if a military member is stationed there they will change their residency.

Bullet was an AK resident, changed from NJ.

DS is in TX now, and changed his from NC.

Florida is also filled with retirees, and many of them are military. Where do they retire in FL? Around military bases, some of those bases are on the west coast of FL.

I have to say when it comes to voting, I think we need to re-vamp the entire system starting with primaries. Let's get rid of state by state primaries. Select a date like we do for the general. I.E. June every state votes their primary, sorry NH and Iowa.

Doing something like that IMPO would mean we are not looking at 2 yrs of running, maybe 1 yr. We also would have different outcomes. Look at Dean, if he didn't do the YEE HAW he probably would have been the candidate instead of Kerry.

Kerry became the candidate like Mitt became a candidate...enough money to survive.

Same with Hillary. If we went to a gen. election for primary are all of the D's on this site positive Obama would have been president.

Look at it, she lost because the primary system and Super Tuesday in March. She folded because she had to fold, what if?

Looks like they finally called it at some point today.

I don't understand it. Florida lets people start voting several weeks before the election date. Seems like they would have enough votes to know the outcome by now.

I didn't know they had a large military constituency.

I guess that makes more sense. Just factors I hadn't thought about :)

It is a lot of things, absentee is one, provisional is another, and since it is so close with a large military constituency, they have to wait.

How can they still not have called it? I mean not that it matters really, but it just seems like it shouldn't be this complicated in this day and age.

Either way, I am so glad it didn't come down to Ohio or Florida. I would much, much rather have MR win than have to go through another voting fiasco.

What exactly is it that's holding up Florida? I can't get a real story. It looks like every county is 100% reporting. Is this just absentee ballots?
