Pretty obvious he does not have a foreign policy other than normal generic Republican show of force. That's not unusual for a challenging Presidential candidate but still not impressive.
I wonder why he is criticizing the London Olympics? What possible benefit does that have for him? Does it make his performance at Salt Lake City look better? Does anyone care even if it does?
One of the new reality in the armed forces is that those with less time in we're the first ones to go. We have reduced our forces and sometimes in illogical ways...on the Navy side, they cut thousands and one of main criteria was less than 15 years of service.
So....do the math.
If you cut those between, say 22-35, you cut the youngest, strongest guys. Not saying a 36 year old male isn't as capable of the heavy lifting, but they are less interested in it then the gung no newbies.
They cut my kid in officer program with WEEKS to go before commissioning in Navy after 4 years training for a weight issue of 7 pounds, even though he was an engineer who was becoming fluent in Arabic. As a footnote, he lost the weight with 2 weeks of protein smoothies. His future career in Navy is not going to happen.
It might be a leaner service (pardon pun) but they are going to be less equipped to deal with significant issues when we face combat situations, if they arise in coming years.
More career men, less grunts doing the work.
This is across all lines of service, not just Navy.
SLS: Unfortunate for your son. If your son wants to work as an engineer with specialized language skills, I am sure that they are Agencies and Firms that could use his skills, if he so desires. I have a not close relative who was reassigned from his military branch to another government entity because he had specialized skills. Wasn't exactly what he signed up for, and maybe a bit illegal, but he didn't have much say since he was an enlisted grunt. Probably couldn't do anything even if he was commissioned.

I think I almost participated in the first showing. And currently paying for the remake. Personally I think that on professional armed forces are more intelligent after the remake and will be extremely cautious for a candidate that shows too much muscle. MR is playing a dangerous gambit especially when the R budgets will eventually affect veteran entitlements.
I think Mitt has a winning foreign policy - economy plan. Flex our muscle around the world, send troops in, reducing the number of unemployed youth - makes sense.
Nice of Mitt to go to the Europe to confer with European Leaders and see the opening of the Olympics -London.
I wonder if he is also going to make this a LDS Mission sojourn. Me, bad. But maybe someone in his volunteer-intern entourage will? Perhaps he's going to learn something about banking, austery, taxes, and bangers + foie gras + kraut?
To even the field, In Wild Bill's first election, the R's painted Bill's Rhode's Scholarship as an all-expense paid, European holiday. However, he sure made valuable contacts and networks. MR needs to establish political relationships outside his circle of bankers.
