Well, jd, you didn't answer the questions.

Though I admit they were poorly worded.

I base the thought that Obama thinks he's getting away with bsing people on raising taxes on upper income, based on the fact that there are probably only 20-25% of people who are in the 25% tax bracket or above (not just income, but after deductions, so they might actually notice). I think most people do not realize the bs, because they are not aware of the tax code that does not affect them. At least not the Democrats. He's not going after the Republicans, just the Democrats and independents who might be suckered.

"Do you honestly think that the people Obama is trying to reach and is politicking to realize that that is the way it works?"

and you base this on what?

"Most people file their income tax forms and are aware of it. He doesn't need to remind people that it is the way it works.

The republicans are using the same class warfare nonsense that they tried to use against Roosevelt unsuccessfully. Perhaps they should try another method."

Questions looking for an honest answer.

Do you honestly think that the people Obama is trying to reach and is politicking to realize that that is the way it works?

Do you honestly think that the Republicans are using "class warfare nonsense" in a way even remotely close to what the Democrats are?

Obama may not be Roosevelt but even if he was - you would be spouting the same nonsense.

Apparantly, according to Mr. Doe, pointing out the class warfare tactics that the Dems having been living off of for generations (because they have no other way of perceiving, or conceiving of, the world around them) is class warfare. Classic lib thinking.

""This is very astute - somewhat like if you're married and filing jointly, your tax rate is 15% to 70700 but 25% at 70701"

You got it. That's the same sort of faulty rhetoric that is dishonest."

Most people file their income tax forms and are aware of it.  He doesn't need to remind people that it is the way it works.

All they care about is that the fact that a very small number of people are going to have a large tax increase, and those aren't the voters they are targeting. Most people are in the group think of, hey it isn't going to hit me. I'm going to get more benefits by taxing that other guy. Plus the 0.9% medicare tax increase that hits in 2013. Individually, all these taxes don't sound like that much, but when you add them all up it turns into Taxmaggedon.

The incomes above 250k and all capital gain/dividend income raises about 1/3 of the total income tax take of the federal government.

That means 1/3 of federal income taxes are subject to a 5% or higher increase in 2013. This is not even mentioning the reversion of the payroll tax back  to 6.2% from 4.2%

How dumb could anyone be to subject so much income to such a large tax hike in a shaky economy?

You got it. That's the same sort of faulty rhetoric that is dishonest.

You don't ever hear him or his administration saying, "Well, we're just raising taxes on the portion of family income you make over 250K. You still get the same tax breaks you had before for that portion." Doesn't make as good a soundbite or as useful in class warfare as saying things like, "We don't need to give tax breaks to millionaires and billionaires." "If you're making over 250K, you're doing just fine." It's purely used to make people think they're going to raise taxes on those rich guys. Until they realize, if they own a profitable business or are a family of well paid professionals, that they are the greedy overpaid people who aren't "paying their fair share." And of course, the reality is, the money isn't mostly in the tiny percentage of people who have that sort of income anyways. It's in the other 98% or so.

But I don't expect to hear honesty in this administration for a long, long time.

"President Obama and his advisors are living in delusional land"

That's for sure! One of the biggest delusions is thinking people aren't going to notice that is the pretense that if you make $249,999.99 you are the middle class, and if you make one cent more, you are one of the wealthiest of Americans, who deserves to get their taxes raised.

teresting comments from an economist who doesn't think highly of Obama:

Obama Wins, Even With High Unemployment: Morici

Governor Romneyhas not capitalized on the stagnant economy, because after sewing up the GOP nomination, he failed to move quickly on issues critical to key demographic groups, and act on the challenger’s imperative to offer a better alternative to the President’s policies.

To win conservative primary voters, Governor Romney rejected the Dream Act, which enjoyed bi-partisan sponsorship in Congress and would permit young adults brought to America illegally as children to earn citizenship by completing two years of college or military service.

After securing the nomination, Mr. Romney failed to define a compromise position more acceptable to Hispanic voters, and permitted President Obama to preempt the issue by suspending deportation of those young adults. President Obama enjoys an overwhelming lead among Hispanic voters.

Governor Romney vows to repeal Obamacare but is vague about what would replace it. The President’s health care reforms may be too expensive and encourage private firms to offshore jobs to escape costly coverage for employees; however, the law contains provisions popular among the elderly and with women—for example, much improved Medicare prescription drug coverage and coverage for children with chronic conditions.

No surprise! President Obama leads Governor Romney in Florida—a must win state for any Republican candidate, along with Texas, given the Democrat’s lock on California and New York. And the President enjoys a significant lead among women in battleground states.

On the economy, Governor Romney sounds like a broken record, repeating an annoying theme and undermining his appeal. Constantly harping President Obama’s economic policies have failed, he asserts his business experience qualifies him to create millions of new American jobs.

Voters recognize President Obama inherited a bigger mess than any president since FDR, managed to stabilize the economy and created more than 3.6 million jobs since the recovery began in October 2009.

At Bain Capital, Governor Romney earned his fortune reorganizing troubled companies—often shutting facilities, outsourcing jobs and firing employees.

Little in that history indicates he knows much about shaping public policies to encourage new industries, attract private investment, instigate innovation, and generally help U.S. companies compete in global markets and bring jobs to America.

During the early days of his campaign, he talked a lot about the right things—dealing with unfair competition from China and developing domestic oil—but since, he has loaded up on Bush Administration economic advisors, and emphasized broader themes like deregulation and tax and spending cuts.

He has not explained how his proposals on trade, energy, health care, banking, taxation, and regulation would create jobs—now, not down the road by unshackling Adam Smith’s “invisible hand.”

President Obama, in the spirit of Harry Truman, is out on the hustings in Pennsylvania and the Middle West extolling his rescue of GM [GM  20.22  watchlist_down.gif  -0.09  (-0.44%)   realtime_icon.gif] and Chrysler, his vision for clean energy jobs, and an America that puts the middle class first.

The President’s claims may be thin on facts, especially given the massive debt he is piling up to pay for it all; however, in that part of the country, considerable progress has been accomplished.

The President leads Governor Romney in the polls in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Michigan, and Wisconsin.

To win, Governor Romney must go to those places—spend lots of time, not just advertising dollars—and explain exactly how he intends to bring back jobs from Asia and create new ones, get banks lending to businesses again, and lower healthcare costs without throwing too many Americans into the breach of an unaffordable free market.

The governor hasn’t done that, and instead, President has been able to define the campaign in terms of the Obama way or the old way—a.k.a. George W. Bush redux in the person of Mitt Romney.

That’s everyone’s poltergeist

My favorite parts of his campaign speeches are when the audience laughs at what he is saying, and he has to correct them that he is now being serious. His tics, mannerisms, pregnant pauses are just funny now. He's running as if he hasn't had 3 1/2 years to correct the things he is complaining about. How can that not be funny?

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/07/07/business/economy/unemployment-report-for-june.html?_r=1&pagewanted=all

“I want to get back to a time when middle-class families and those working to get into the middle class have some basic security,” he said. “We’ve got to deal with what’s been happening over the last decade, the last 15 years.”

Mr. Romney, on the other hand, emphasized the more recent string of weak job growth that has taken place under Mr. Obama’s leadership.

“This is a time for Americans to choose whether they want more of the same,” Mr. Romney said from Wolfeboro, N.H., where he is vacationing. “It doesn’t have to be this way. America can do better. And this kick in the gut has to end.”

The recent string of weak employment growth may work to political advantage for Mr. Romney.

What really struck me is how Obama's campaign thinks that saying the least decade or 15 yrs will help him.  10 yrs ago the housing market was booming, unemployment was at an all time low, and I damn well know when I purchased my 2000 Suburban gas was @$1 a gallon.

Seriously, thanks for reminding me that 1997-2002 I had more money in my pocket than I do today.  Yep. that makes me want to pull the lever for you!

OBTW am I the only one that has noticed the fact his slogan of Forward has been dropped?  Replaced with Are you IN?
