The scoop from people we know who know some of the key players IRL is that this was an extremely accurate portrayal. The thing that stands out to me is that she was and is either too arrogant or too delusional to know her own limitations.
Here is how Steve Schmidt summarizes what Palin has become. He was asked if she will remain an important national political figure.
I hope not,” he said. “And the reason I say that is because if you look at, over the last four years, all of the deficiencies in knowledge, all the deficiencies in preparedness, she’s done not one thing to rectify them, to correct them. She has become a person who I think is filled with grievance, filled with anger who has a divisive message for the national stage when we need leaders in both parties to have a unifying message. . . . The lack of preparedness was a bad thing and the total disinterest in being more prepared and rectifying that is something that disqualifies.”
At one time I was sympathic towards candidates that got razed and vilafied. Then I heard a commentor saying that our election system tests our candidates to see if they really can measure up to the measure we expect as the President.
Palin was selected a VP candidate to a really Old Guy, who had a good probability of dying in office. A lot of us voted because of not having Palin as the potential next President.
Let's see... There is a scene where Palin completely shuts down and just ignores her handler as she is focused only on her cell phone and text messaging. This is before the Katie Couric interview.
Then, the scene right after, where she has a meltdown in the makeup chair over her hair and makeup.
We know that many liberals and Hollywood hate Palin, but man, this is even more unflattering than I expected.
I actually found myself feeling really sympathetic towards Palin. I actually teared up a bit when she was reacting to people making fun of her. I thought the bad guys were the ones who threw her to the wolves. She had no idea what she didn't know and I'm sure she knew as much as the average citizen because that is really what she was. She obviously should have been better vetted. I thought the melt down and the refusal, out of fear no doubt, to prepare were very realistic and not at all surprising. I would not condemn her for that. She was under immeasurable pressure.
I thought it also reflected well on her relationship with her family. I think they were all used by the campaign but the movie didn't suggest that she was using them.
The content supposedly came from the people who worked closely with her on the campaign. How much they threw her under the bus, we'll never know.
