Maybe these will be replaced with documentaries about what's likely to actually cause the end of humanity or the end of civilization as we know it

If humans last long enough it will be the sun. As stars die they grow in size. A star the size of the sun will grow larger than the earth's orbit.

I think we'll kill ourselves off (or evolve, or leave Earth because we've killed it or exhausted most of our usable resources) long before that happens.

Oh I don't any IRL either (except myself? But I don't think it's the end)... Unless they're quiet about it.
I think those making money are geniuses. If people are dumb enough to buy, then good for those selling. I've got a bridge on December 22nd that I'd be willing to discuss with them...

I believe it - there are crazy people out there.

I just don't know them IRL.  Or maybe they aren't going to admit that they believe the world will end, but secretly do.  Either way, it probably is big business.

Hard to collect on the winnings if they bet the world ends and wins, I guess.

Sls, look it up. People are making very good money on peoples fear of 2012. There was recently a documentary on one of the money channels about 2012 "business". Literally millions of people believe that there's going to be something major on that date.

I don't know anyone who is worried the world will end on December 21st due to the Mayan Calendar ending.  confuse.gif

I do know lots of folks worried about the costs of foodstuffs and gas going up, bee hive collapse,  global markets heading into the crapper and inflation causing the dollar to go crazy.  I live in earthquake territory and our fault is 300 years overdue for a big shaker.

Having been through a good solid year and a half of unemployment and having several LDS friends, I am taking a cue from them and getting us prepared for the next emergency.  That emergency may not be a zombie apocolypse, but it could put a strain on our wallet and getting prepared isn't a bad thing.

I figure on December 22nd I will be getting our house ready for a Landshark Christmas, hopefully all three of my kids will either be home or employed and our cats will likely be pulling all of the ornaments off our tree.

I love 2012 stuff. I think it's absolutely fascinating. I wish people understood the actual mythology (that is NOT the word I'm looking for...) behind the 2012 date. No where does it say that the Mayans thought this was the end of the world. It was a Christian concept placed on a Mayan calendar. The Mayans thought it would be the end of a cycle, but definitely not the end of the world. Now, we don't know what the end of the cycle means but no where does it say the end of the world. However, what's interesting is that more than one culture points to the 2012 date.

With that said, come Dec 22, it will all be gone. I love the shows on the History Channel and others about 2012. It amazes me what people come up with. As an anthropology student, it's especially fascinating to watch human reactions to this.

Maybe these will be replaced with documentaries about what's likely to actually cause the end of humanity or the end of civilization as we know it (the end of petroleum, the end of clean water, over population, etc). But alas, no more 2012 stuff :(.

Just in case, I will be at home with my dog, boyfriend, and family on December 21. Hey who knows? If it's really the apocolypse, I'd rather die with people I love. If it's the Rapture like some Christians believe, none of us are going to Heaven (at least, we've been told since we're not Christian haha) so we can enjoy being "left behind" together.
