Leftist pundits I heard this morning on MSNBC admitted to salivating over running against Gingrich, but said the White House is still anticipating a Romney nomination. Gingrich has a big mouth...he'll fatally burn himself somehow--he tends to say whacky stuff at times. Chris Cillizza said that O has never visited a state which was not a swing state during his presidency, except to fundraise (i.e. CA). I'm not going to fact check it, but that's what he said. Personally I could not get enthusiastic about a Gingrich run. I think MR is much more capable of fixing the economy than Newt is.

I don't necessarily agree about the independents not flocking to Gingrich.
I suspect they will go where they find the most hospitable message. They aren't party liners.
Honestly, I like Gingrich more than anyone in the party these days. I never would have said that a year ago, either.
A local newspaper actually discussed Gingrich in very favorable terms today, implying that he is starting to stand out from the pack and that he MAY have the best message for the independent voters who lean right. This is not a paper that I would have thought would say that, either.
Razor I am not disagreeing with you at all. However, I do wonder if he is being "frozen out" by the Obama administration, and by doing so he actually is hurting Obama.
When the media turns on a Dem, to the point Matthews is criticizing him, the message is not getting across properly.
The cliche don't kill the messenger for the message does not apply to politics.
Carney looked like he was throwing BS and hoping something will stick. He appeared not to have an answer. Heck, I am not at his level, bu my 1st thought would have been when he went to any of these states it was to promote his policies on a certain subject not because they are purple states.
Carney travels with him, why couldn't he think on his feet and say that? The BS about Bush traveled here or there doesn't matter to me. That was then, this is now. IMPO, people are tired of hearing under Bush's administration XYZ occurred. Guess what this is your administration.
As a parent if one of our kids said to us: "Well you let my sibling do it" We would not accept that as answer for their behavior. Why should we accept that from the President.
If I was a reporter after that Bush went here or there, I would have raised my hand and said Obama has played 80 plus rounds of golf, Bush played a dozen or so in 8 yrs. Is this adminstration always going to compare every action of theirs against every action that Bush did? Where is the line when you stop comparing the Bush adminstration for their actions, and accept your own?
Not to divert the thread, but IMPO if Obama loses to an R, Romney or Newt, it is because his message was lost, and that is Carney's fault.
IMPO, Newt may be smart, but there is no way he will win the Independents, and you need them to be elected President. Romney has a chance. And no, I am not a Mitt supporter, my guy doesn't seem to know how to play the game...Huntsman

Being the presidents spokesman is always a difficult position. He has to deal with a hostile audience, remember everything the president has said, and then articulate a cogent message. That's very difficult to do.
Seriously he bumbled 2 questions from ABC and CBS.
Heck even Chris Matthews lost the thrill up his leg for Obama.
I believe Obama will be re-elected, but I also believe that both houses will go strong R, thus making him a lame duck for at least the 1st 2 yrs of his 2nd term.
