Tigers lost last night, ending their season. Lions lost today (it was supposed to be a relatively easy win and they just played horribly IMO) ending their winning streak. Wings won, but barely, in overtime.
Then of course MSU beats Michigan (fourth year in a row!) and there's outcry (like always). We can never just have our victory.
This is the first time in my entire life that Detroit has had more than 2 decent teams. The Wings have been good most of my life, but the Lions and Tigers have pretty much always sucked (with a few very rare exceptions). The Lions are 5-0 for the first time since the 50s, the Tigers are winning, the Wings are expected to at least do well, the Pistons, well... there's that, but we're allowed to have one blemish- especially if there isn't even going to be an NBA this year!
Detroit desperately needs a break like this. Let's face it, we haven't had a good few decades. The economy is benefitting from these wins and just the general spirit of Detroit/Michigan is uplifted. Even if this is just a temporary thing, it's nice to just have a break from the doom and gloom.
