That's because a sizable minority of the American populace secretly admires the governments of countries like Saudi Arabia and Iran. All they really disagree on is the ethnicity of the God/Jesus figure.

A firm stand against public sector unions upping the size of their trough, amongst other things.

You should support Steve Sweeney the Democratic Senate President. He has been pushing that for the past 5 years. Without him it would have been all just yapping. In fact he came out about this issue even when Christie was telling the teachers, cops and firemen anyone that said he was going to cut their pensions and benefits was a liar. He told them their pensions were a sacred trust.

Oh to get the legislation the governor promised to ignore the issue of prevailing wage.

Besides that, he's a fat guy, and he's never been a diplomat.

Christie appeals to me a good bit more than Romney or Huntsman.

Obama's standing with independents sucks at the moment and the fact he's going to have to run as someone just to the left of Kucinich to keep his base from sleeping through the election, isn't likely to improve it.

How moderate does the Republican nominee really have to be?

Supposedly Chris Christie is considering joining the fray.

That could be a game changer.

I think Perry and Bachmann will not get the nom. The "allure" has waned. R's want to win and they realize that the end of the day you need Independents.

Sorry, still a Huntsman fan, but he has a problem finding his stride!

Pima. I was referring to those at the debate. The compassion shown by Perry was for undocumented immigrants. I know you are not anti-gay. You have been very clear on that.

Eating their own, cartera? That's a pretty harsh description for what democrats would be doing if they weren't tied to that boat anchor.

I think the chance of anyone other than Perry (or Bachmann if the gods are feeling mean) is pretty slim, pima. The mood is going to favor the one that looks the least like the anchor and Romney isn't even close enough.

Cartera, I am not a Perry fan, my favorite has not found his stride and will be gone...Huntsman. Please don't make broad base assumptions that all Republicans are against gays.

The crowd last night managed to work themselves into a bigoted xenophobic frenzy about the "illegals."  No doubt they feel the same way about the "gays."

The Republicans are eating their own today. Rick Perry looked like a bumbling idiot  but, perhaps worse, he showed a little of something that was clearly anathema to the crowd  - compassion.

Do you think that women in the military should be forced to have men living in their housing units

Why not?

Are you saying that every woman you see you want to "DO"?

Sorry, but if I believed someone would sexually assault me, I don't assume it is just guys. Hate to say it and burst your bubble, BUT hell yeah, as a Mom I would feel my DD or myself would be safer living with men!

I have 2 DS's and 1 DD. I believe my DS's would never physically attack a woman...sorry you feel that men would! I have a DD (5'2 120 lbs), but OMG she can beat the sheaat out of her brothers because she was raised by us that XY/XX means nothing...she is "WOMAN HEAR ME ROAR"

Some guy come and try, knock himself out...I knew since 15 to hit certain areas, and as I got older I also learned about hitting their ears, placing my thumb in their eye would give me an edge.

Realize dorms on a military base are like dorms in college...so before you create fear, my question to you is do you allow your DD to live in a CO-ED dorm? Don't you worry?

Gay men are attracted to other men. Gay men get excited looking at the bodies of other men. It is no different when heterosexual men look at nude women's bodies

You are yanking my chain, right? You seriously are not saying that every person of the opposite sex has made you have a sexual arousal. If so, my condolences to your significant other. Hell, I think George Clooney is "hot", but if I saw him in a shower next to me I wouldn't jump his bones! I wouldn't even be aroused.

That's the thing, sex is intimate to me. I believe it is intimate for the avg person regardless of their sexuality. You appear to have the belief that homosexuals do not have that chip in their brain.

Guess what, there are deviants in this world and it has nothing to do with homo/heterosexuality. That is a chip in their brain.

Many jobs in the military require close contact especially when in combat.

And they had that issue before the repeal...are you willing to go on record that people in the military have not been sexually harassed? If not what doe s that comment have to do with the price of eggs in Holland?

Just as I think it would be reasonable for a women to say she does not want men looking at her while she showers, changes cloths etc,

Guess what as a woman, I don't like other women seeing me naked or change clothes. Our DS plays FB and has to shower at school, do you think he likes it? Of course not, but it still happens in HS. With your premise, my kids under 18 should never had to have changed out into gym clothes in HS! However, in our system if they didn't they would FAIL PE!

Did you let your kids change in the locker room? Can you tell me that 100% were heterosexual?  Are you stating that people turn homosexual after HS graduation?  If not contact your GC right now and get your child out of PE csince  they must change clothing in front of anyone and everyone, because in your opinion/defense they will be arousing someone and creating an environment that allows sexual assault.

PLEASE stop and think...does your DD/DS have sleep overs at friends homes, how do you know what is going on?  Do you know their besties don;t have beards?

I think those who object to having openly homosexual people in the military have a legitimate concern.

I agree! BUT their concern is not what you have premised in this post, their concern is about the govt F'ing over their peers and not giving them the benefits that their heterosexual counterparts receive when the bullets start flying!

Finally before you assume that the military on a whole feels this way, go to www.serviceacademyforums.com There are some with your perspective, but as a whole, they agree with the repeal and have no issues with homosexuals serving...that might be because many know they already exist in the military and there has been no damage to success regarding their mission.

Remember their job is to fulfill a mission, that mission is to defend this country.

pima, here is the problem. Do you think that women in the military should be forced to have men living in their housing units and forced to have men using their toilets and forced to have men showering next to them? I am pretty sure the answer is no. Gay men are attracted to other men. Gay men get excited looking at the bodies of other men. It is no different when heterosexual men look at nude women's bodies. Many jobs in the military require close contact especially when in combat. Just as I think it would be reasonable for a women to say she does not want men looking at her while she showers, changes cloths etc, I think it would be reasonable for a heterosexual man to say he does not want a gay man looking him while he showers, changes cloths, etc. I think those who object to having openly homosexual people in the military have a legitimate concern. I do not know if that means homosexuals should be excused, but I certainly understand a limitation on their expression of sexual orientation and a limit on sexual behavior by all military gay or straight.

I didn't watch the debate except for the 1st 5 minutes. The noise level for introductions was very loud...thundering loud. It appears to me that it was a few of jerks from the noise level.

Okay, as a wife who spent 20+ yrs following Bullet around because he was in the AF, I can say most military members support homosexuals serving in the military. Most will say they know they served with homosexuals and didn't care.

Lt. Col. Victor Fehrenbach, flew with Bullet, and was an excellent flier, and Bullet was proud to serve with him. He never cared left or right who he kissed goodnight, all he cared about was cover my 6 when sheeaat starts to fly.

Sorry, but this whole thing about being the last country bugs the beegeegees out of me.

This is our country...would you say Amanda Knox trial would be the same here? No! Italy is Italy! Go to Brazil and women walk around topless on beaches. We do not recognize homosexual unions nationally.  That is our country.

You are asking the military to be the societal leader regarding personal life, but at the same time adhere to our national law.  We are sending mix signals...it is against our national law, but you need to give bennies anyway.

Do you realize that even today a military member can be discharged for committing adultery or having a relationship with someone who reports to them? Trust me Bullet's boss in 98 was. That was the big issue for the military with Clinton...he acknowledged he had sex with that woman, and as the Chief of the military they followed orders from someone who would be court martial in the military for admitting the same exact thing.  Are you starting to see the tightrope they have to walk with this issue?

Additionally, the military pay is not like "real world" pay. They have a base pay and than additional pay to pay for your housing if you live off base and are recognized as "married".  If you are stationed in AK or NJ we are talking 6-7K a yr just in housing allowance per yr... typical tour is 3 - 4 yrs.  That means 21-28K over 4 yrs. you are losing.  You are also allowed not to shop at the base grocery store, dept. store, get on base or get your allergy shots for free, get employment priority, attend briefings for deployments or be given the honor to be the 1st notified regarding injury or death...if they are injured in Iraq and flown to Ramstein, they fly the family free, put them up and escort them.  You are not a dependent and have no rights at all.

You are also allowed as a "married" member to get on base housing for free. You do not show a 1040, you show a marriage license. It creates an issue that some couples who are recognized by their state as married, while others are not recognized.

When you move you are given a weight allowance for your household goods as single, and as married, that is on top of per diem and ability to go to the military doc, etc., etc. etc.  A military member regardless of sexuality cannot take their "partner" when they are assigned to Europe without a marriage license.  The military death benefits that are given for life, unless the spouse remarries is @ 25K a yr, and that doesn't include free health care or other bennies.  That means the member from CA because they don't recognize homosexual unions are SOL, but the one from VT gets bennies.

I am not opposed to repealing it,  I want it,  but I am pissed that they now placed confusion and resentment because none of this was resolved.

The SA's (AFA, USNA, WP) all now have to implement the stupidest rule of all doors now remain open because of fear that sexual harassment may occur. Rule was opposite sex prior to this.

My godmother is a lesbian. I adore and love her. My Mom knew she was gay when I was 7, she told her, so I don't believe they are deviants. She lost her partner of 27 yrs a day before NJ acknowledged homosexual unions. Her partner's children locked her out of her last hours in the hospital, funeral, and than had the gall to sue her for their fiscal gain when she was the sole financial contributor to their union.

Sorry, but I want to hit the Gay community, the military would follow any law...why didn't they force Obama to recognize homosexual unions. I will keep fighting this issue until the day my godmother can file on her 1040 widow.

Yes, they won a battle, but winning a battle doesn't mean winning a war.

Sorry, but I have anger and contempt for our govt.  If you feel homosexuals should be able to serve openly like everyone else, than do the F***ing right thing and let them marry.

Old joke, but I agree with it...Why sholdn't homosexuals not be allowed to marry and be just as miserable as the rest of us.

This is total BS...let them marry!

Back on topic... There will always be morons like this on both sides by hitting that youtube link you gave them credibility in their eyes!

The GOP audience was very vocal during the debate. I heard it all. The boos, however, were maybe one or two people out of five thousand. They were not booing the solider, they were booing permitting homosexuals to serve in the military. That is a legitimate debate. I do not know what the answer is regarding whether homosexuals should be permitted to serve openly in the military but I do know I want a military that kicks ass not one that is politically correct for the sake of being politically correct.

^ I agree with that. As I said, the liberals who do it are just as disgusting. Yes, luckily there were only a few people booing.

The support for reapplying DADT is a bit disturbing as well (just in general). We're one of the only first world countries that still has this up for a debate.

well, luckily I only heard like 3 people boo-ing, and I agree that they are very wrong. Some liberals have also hurled their fair share of nasty things at the military.

I agree with you that all military members should be treated with respect (unless they are being dishonorably discharged).

I do not agree with Santorum that letting people be open that they are not heterosexual is "injecting social policy"... IMO it is treating all members equally.

This disgusts me. A soldier is a soldier is a soldier unless they've done something heinous. Being open about who you love does NOT fall into that category.

This man is putting his life on the line in Iraq and those select (it seems like there were only a few, thankfully) people have the nerve to boo him? Shameful. (And before anyone accuses me of just going after the GOP- any anti-soldier sentiment from the left gets the same type of negativity from me. As some of you know, I come from a military-heavy family and I lost my brother-in-law in Iraq. Any boos or protest against our soldiers are disgusting in my book no matter where you fall on the political spectrum- I will just as sharply criticize these audience members if it comes out that they were democrats.)

Now, I agree that sexual activity has absolutely no place in the military. That goes form men, women, and all over the LGBT spectrum. However, that is not what DADT was about. And no soldier should ever be booed, again unless they've done something heinous.
