Well not only some of the R's not going to attend, but Milwaukee has decided to not televise it, at least not on NBC.

America has waited 2.5 years for the all important jobs speech, 1 more day isn't going to make a difference. Will Nancy be there with her focused like a laser beam on jobs speech too? Oh wait, that was supposed to be 2 years ago when she was Speaker.

I have stopped watching Morning Joe because of Eugene Robinson. I was always able to deal with Mika, but now that he is a constant regular, I can not watch them anymore.

I wonder if Obama's re-election team has started to think about what someone like me would ask.

Since July 2008, the stock market has shown no gain, while the foreclosure, unemployment rate and college tuition has raised. Due to these factors what we planned for our children's college fund disappeared, and even if we wanted to take a home equity line to pay for it, the home we built in 06/07 is underwater, thus we can't take an equity line. even though we put 20% down...luckily we can pay the mtg. That leaves us with forcing our children to take college loans, which we intend to pay, but because it will be in their name they will enter with debt. We invested the day they were born every month for 18 yrs...we planned. We also make in the 6 figures, thus grants are not an option, so tell me Mr. President what do you propose.

OBTW, my SIL is in the exact same position. Will your suggestion be send them to a cheaper college?

Do you realize that unemployment bennies can be extended to the end of time, but it won't assist in paying for college and all it probably can do is slow down the rate of homes going into foreclosure. An industry that has 1 out of 6 jobs tied to it. Build all the roads and bridges you want, but until you get the housing market corrected you are just putting a band aid on the real problem.

I would also say to him, please explain how reducing the defense budget will help our economy. Every branch right now is getting ready to cut loose people, and some have already started. That means we will have more on the unemployment roles. Kill a new aircraft, carrier, tank, OKAY, but once you do you also will force companies like Lockheed, Grumman, Raytheon, GE to shut down plants and that will increase unemployment.

Premeditation or not, I don't think there's really anything he can do - at this point - that's going to affect either the country's employment chances or his re-election ones. Here's a link to this afternoon's realclearpolitics lineup, and other than Eugene Robinson pounding his little drum, it's unique in it's complete negativity:

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/

Did see that he put a muzzle on Lisa Jackson and her "best science", economy smothering, granola scarfing orgy of new EPA smog rules. Not that it'll help but before we know it he'll look so much like Perry he'll even have a drawl.

I don't think that it was really planned other than there was a plan to have an advantage. I think he inadvertently forced their hand.  The logical time to make a presentation is soon after LaborDay. Sept 6 (tuesday) is the first day of school and Congress is still returning to DC. Sept 9,10,11,12 (Fri,-Monday) are bad days leaving Sept 7 or 8th.

Congress is in recess. Obama is on vacation. But Obama's team works while the R/TP teams also vacations or prep for Sept 7 shoot-out.

So whatever is being proposed now by the candidates, will be dissected by their  fellow runners. Saving Obama/Dems the trouble of finding faults. He would say that all proposals are good proposals (looks good) and says that he has a proposal too (leadership). He will say that he will work with the Congress to get a job bill at the least cost to the treasury (Compromise). Meanwhile the Candidates will either attack each other's plan or jointly attack, Obama, and not contribute to any solutions (alienating voters).

Wasn't it hysterical, that he said the country had to wait for his jobs plan, but as the country is hurting, Michelle couldn't wait 4 hours more to get to the Vineyard and cost the taxpayers more money!

Seriously it wasn't like she had to pick up the key to the house by 5 at the rental agency!

I have to say the more I think about it the more I believe it might have been premeditated, now he gets to counter the Repubs from the debate.

You think it was premeditated, lp? Not that there just wasn't room to pack the daily planner for that Martha's Vinyard trip? Even with two jets?

Here's hoping his jobs plan is something unique and interesting, both not a sop to what's looking to be an unmotivated base and not a simple example of election year pork.

out snookered them.

He changed the dynamics from himself to jobs, debt, underwater mortgages, and to the many R/TP running for the nomination. He's giving them a week to come up with 'better' programs that they haven't seen and to do so without resources. evileye

The best answer they will have is that they cannot comment on what they haven't seen. But the worst answer is that they haven't come up with any plan in the last 3 years which will be implied by everyone.

Not everyone gets FOX -footballevileye or even care.evileye

I read that this morning longprime.

Honestly, I don't know what to think about Obama anymore.

Why would he listen to advisors about scheduling it the same date as the R debate? How did they convince him this is a smart move? It would be like hosting your bridal shower on the same day your cousin had it planned months earlier.

He can't say OOPS I didn't realize. He can't say well I was engaged 1st so I take priority even though you had set your date already.

I understand that he requested this date because it was the 1st day back in session, and Boehner had an issue since they already have the schedule to be voting until 6:30 p.m. on the 7th, and for a speech it requires a 3 hrs sweep of the building which would interfere with their schedule. Or so both sides contend.

I think he wanted it on the 7th because the 8th is the opening NFL game of the Saints against Green Bay and that will tick off a lot of people!

I am not a poll person when it comes to believing in them, because many times it is how the question is posed or the pool that can skew the results, but I do believe in this poll where 2 out of 3 give Obama a Thumbs Down for the economy.

Actually, I think that if Perry wasn't yet in it, the timing would be mostly to play to the "only adult in the room" image he's been working on over the summer.

And when your poll numbers are as low as his are, being seen as an ass by people who had no intention of voting for you under any circumstances probably isn't a big concern.

Obama is giving a speech to get the economy on a better footing vs the R/TP debating amongst themselves and/or denouncing Obama's personality.

The only question I have is how good are the GOP/TP's advertisements?

Who's gonna give the rebuttal to Pres Obama? and How will the rebuttal play with the GOP and TP?

Its gonna be a grand night. evileye

It's great!  Now the american people can contrast obama with the boneheads running for the Republican nomination including Perry - the shallow image of Bush

I really really think he has trouble with the concept of co-equal branches of government. Examples abound, this being just one.

Kind of scary when you think about it.

Anything worth waiting for has to be good and we've been waiting for him to pivot to jobs for such a long, long, time that I can't think of anything more important than letting him pick both the date and venue for the unveiling of.... the plan.

I differ.evileye

He's given the R's and TP's, eight days to come up with something bad against  any plan that Obama could devise.

The candidate that's memorized the matrix will look the best.

Now come on.  Seriously, this is the 1st available date to give your jobs speech?

Asked whether the speech was purposefully scheduled the same night as the Republican debate, White House press secretary Jay Carney said "of course not."

"It is coincidental," said Carney, who explained that a number of considerations were taken into account when Obama settled on Sept. 7.

"One debate of many that's on one channel of many was not enough of a reason" to pick another date, Carney said.

Carney said that Obama had chosen to speak directly to Congress in hopes that members had been chastened and softened after hearing from angry constituents over the August break.

He has made us wait while he had his summer vacation, and would be back for @ 10 days, but he couldn't have it on the 6th or the 8th?

Am I the only one seeing this as a way of playing DC politics, something he said on his bid to the WH he wanted to get rid of?
