I was at work on the 7th floor of a building overlooking Reagan National Airport.
Vibration at first, felt through my feet on the floor. then the whole building swaying, in a put both hands on the desk, hope it stops soon, is the building gonna fall, should I stay or run kinda way.
People who were near the doors on the first floor quickly exited the building. After it was over some people left, others went back to work.
a couple minutes later the A/c was turned off, as it usually does at 6 pm, but it was only 2 pm. then an announcement over the PA, please evacuate the building.
Knowing what happens next, I "evacuated" to my car and drove home, and avoided the gridlock that inevitably happens.
The "all clear" to reenter the building was given later that night via email, saying "see everyone at work tomorrow." When I drove into the garage in my building, there was small shower happening where I usually park, from a loose joint in a water pipe. It was fixed when I went back to the car at the end of the day
Washington Monument is closed indefinitely. Daylight can be seen through cracks in the observation room at the top. My guess is it will be closed for a year or two. I'm not sure if it would have stayed standing if the quake were much stronger.

I had never felt more than a tremor before today. It was very surprising, to say the least. I was only about 30 miles from the epicenter. We had a good shake, but thankfully, no damage.
So, who felt it? Not used to earthquakes around these parts. I experienced them quite a bit in Costa Rica, but never in michigan. I was really confused at first.
Just want to make sure all our east coast friends are doing well. I have some family down in Virginia and apparently their animals were NOT fans of the earthquake. Apparently they're still refusing to come out of the bathtub (it's where they go to hide during storms) lol.
