I was surprised by the verdict. I hope it is overturned on appeal. Blago never personally profited from his behavior. His actions are common among politicians the difference was that he was blatant and dramatic about his desires to maximize his political position. He was convicted for being for being an a-hole not for violating any crimes.
Oh come now, razor. What Blago did was against the law. He didn't personally profit from his behavior, but it certainly wasn't for a lack of trying. Just because its "common among politicians" doesn't make it legal, and it certainly doesn't make it right. You know, they put people away for a very long time when it can be proven that they tried to hire a hit-man to murder their spouse in order to collect on the insurance, even if the plan fails (the supposed hit-man was actually an FBI agent, etc), the spouse isn't killed, and no claim is ever filed against the insurance, because attempted murder, even by proxy is against the law.
Blago got what he deserved. I'm surprised it took so long. When I heard the verdict, I laughed my ass off. He might want to cut that pretty hair short before checking into the big house, if you know what I mean....
