Bush and Cheney are doing other things at the moment and I don't believe they include both lobbying S&P not to downgrade our miserable debt outlook and decrying the downgrade as a "political" act.

The Republicans had the Senate, 50-50 with VP Cheney the tiebreaker until the arogantly hamhanded Bu****es alienated Jeffords and he left the party:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Senate_elections,_2000

The Republicans had the House until 2006, when a war and Bush weary nation repudiated the Republicans:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_House_of_Representatives_elections,_2000

Face it, the only reason Bush lasted two terms was because of 911 and the wars.

The only thing saving him from being the worst leader in the history of , well history, is President O's incredibly maladroit handling of , well, everything.

Do not claim the Republican tax cuts did not get a chance to grow the economy. They had YEARS. Cutting taxes to provide funds that are then invested in China cannot create prosperity for America.

Republicans did not control the Senate until 2003 as I recall.

Obama is no Bush. President Bush made numerous proposals to reform social security and made numerous attempts to get them passed. Every time he did, the Democrats stopped him. Obama pissed away a trillion dollars borrowed from our children. He is only addressing the budget problems he largely contributed to because of the recent elections where he lost the house and nearly lost the Senate. Democrats were not after Bush to reform social security and they were successful in stopping him from fixing it. Obama is only interested in paying lip service to budget reform because the Republicans and Tea Party are making him think about it. Bush led on social security reform. Obama is following on deficit reduction.

No need to default

Have the Fed print money to monetize the debt.

If the Fed won't "play ball", dissolve it and let the Treasury create money from nothing.

Why pay rent on something the government can create at will? It is not like the dollar has any actual value. Our currency is backed by:

"Prudent men making prudent decisions" When have we seen ANY prudence from Washington?

"Full faith and credit of the US government" Trust us we're POLITICIANS!

Barf

Perhaps OB  took a lesson of GWB in 2005. Never lead SS reform. Congress must come to a concensus. Remember GWB tried to get Congress to reform SS, and he had a majority in both Houses, a recovering economy and a favorable 2004 election. His own Comptroller of the Treasury was citing the doomsday scenario, and that's without the many of the problems we have today that we didn't have then.

I am betting on a default.

Congress isn't the problem. It's President Obama who has his head in the sand. I bravely appointed a deficit reduction commission which actually drafted a good deficit reduction plan, but then Obama ignored that plan and is now playing politics with our children's future.
