They only give seats on the board of these agencies to countries that deserve them. Like they recently put that great promoter of women's rights, Saudi Arabia, on the Women's Rights Council, didn't they?

These UN Councils are meaningful, and serious business!

Or something like that.

You are right. They should have never been given a seat on the Council. That is one way of rewarding countries for backing off their nuclear programs, but that doesn't make it right.

well, at least some of it is true, because Libya is (was?) on the Human Rights Council, which IMO says all you need to know about that body.

You mean none of it's true? Beck ghostwrote that slander?

Bummer, but no matter:  that fine organization has enough history of expensive and ineffectual stupidity that it hasn't room for another fork anyway.

FauxNews... it's what's under your bed tonight.bleh

Because only Fox News would run anything like this when the UN Human Rights Council kicked Libya out today and Venezuela's weak effort to defend was met with disdain.  It just too closely mirrors the crap that Beck talks about night after night.

That article does not tell the full story by any means. Something about the source told me that - it has a Beck whiff to it.

I am with bus, I can feel the bile coming up my throat now.

I had no worry about the uprising in Egypt, but this one is scaring me. For Hillary to come out and say no option is off the table is saying ALOT! Let's be honest she is getting her ducks in a row re:European support.

Nato has run roughshod for too long trying to appease leaders like Castro, Chavez, Alhmendijad and Ghaddafi.

They are losing respect everyday and if they don't get with the program soon, they will become their predecessor League of Nations.

Kind of makes me want to vomit, really.

We pay 22% of their budget. Not a small number.

International politics, like the universe, is not only stranger than we imagine but stranger than we can imagine.

I forget how much we contribute to their budget but can't imagine how the results are worth any amount, no matter how small.

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/02/28/council-poised-adopt-report-praising-libyas-human-rights-record/

As the United Nations works feverishly to condemn Libyan leader Muammar al-Qaddafi for cracking down on protesters, the body's Human Rights Council is poised to adopt a report chock-full of praise for Libya's human rights record.

The review commends Libya for improving educational opportunities, for making human rights a "priority" and for bettering its "constitutional" framework. Several countries, including Iran, Venezuela, North Korea, and Saudi Arabia but also Canada, give Libya positive marks for the legal protections afforded to its citizens -- who are now revolting against the regime and facing bloody reprisal.
