He has liked it so far.  I didn't "qualify" for Kaiser with my health conditions, so I have Blue Cross. Our kids have the Kaiser plan, but haven't been, yet.

One thing that does freak me out a little bit is the ER/URGENT CARE options.  My sister burned herself badly the other night with a pot, and couldn't go to urgent care and had to sit in the ER for hours....meanwhile, there were actually people treated there who weren't Kaiser patients but had more serious injuries.

My husband finally found a good job with benefits (yay!) and we get to go back on group insurance at the end of the month.  The question is - should I stay with Kaiser for him and the kids, and add me, or go back to a PPO.  Any suggestions?

Are you having a good Kaiser experience? My late father had Kaiser and loved it/them. I wasn't quite so impressed, on his behalf. Various reasons.

He hasn't tried that one.  Probably worth a go. Somebody else just mentioned it to me the other day!

His old doctor was kind of a pompous jerk.  If he didn't recommend it, he didn't want his patients to try it.  We just changed docs.  The one at Kaiser recommended a new statin. She is much friendlier and welcoming of different treatment options, including alternative therapies.

How about the red rice as a statin? Has he tried that? I think that is what is supposed to help. Plus they apparently have non-flushing niacin supplements.

My husband was advised by his doc to try this along with a statin.

He stayed on it two weeks before stopping it's use.  His side effects were unpleasant.

He was dizzy and felt tingly all over for long periods of time.  The flushing of the skin was annoying, but he could deal with that.

It definitely works well for some people, though.

High doses of niacin are beneficial.

I guess the supplement "nutcases" had this one right.

Abbot's attempt to "proprieterize" a cheap and readily available supplement are interesting. "Niaspan"

Often "there is no medical evidence compound x is beneficial" simply means no one has had time or money to study it.
