The public was largely oblivious to this. When an LA Times article investigated, that's when things went to hell.
The public - when they heard about it - wanted heads on a pike. They still do. They definitely found their voice. It's a mess. They can't function as a city, their charter is in the toilet and they still have bills to pay - legit ones. Rizzo and Company screwed the pooch.
This is a community where you didn't have a lot of political activism, or even knowledge about how a city runs. Rizzo was a crook, but he knew how to play the system. The question is how did the Times figure out what was going on? There must have been a leak somewhere in City Hall.
Where was the press and public while this was going on? Public meetings are required for such votes. Also, where were the whistleblowers on the inside?
These folks are going down and will be spending some time in the big house. It's shocking, but what I found hysterically funny was the idea that she was supposed to talk Adams into a cheaper salary/benefits package. Really? I think she failed at that task, miserably.
That is sickening. How what they could construe what they were doing as merely pig like rather than going whole hog boggles the mind. This was a law enforcement officer!? The pig / hog quote was used in the remake of "Wallstreet" recently.
