The free market allowed a charlatan in the U.S. to become incredibly rich and famous implanted goat testacles in men, killing many of them, back in the 20s and 30s.  The technique was to restore virility, the Viagra of the day.  Even now, penile enhancement, performance bracelets, and all manner of worthless supplements suck money from people with no proof other than testimonials, used by the aforesaid charlatan too.  People are gullible and ruses suggesting life improvement will always sell to some hoping for better things.  The story of the goat testicle doctor is in a book called, "Charlatan," a quick and fascinating read.
