Reporting of data about the real state and direction of the US economy would interfere with the "agendas" of both the left and right.
"Small government" will not win the current economic war. Rush. Beck and their ilk have successfully diverted the just anger of the American people from the real source of their misery, short term business thinking. If we do not develop effective government that is able to direct private enterprise toward the long term intersts of our own country, we will not survive. We are the only G8 country that allows predation on our capital base.
The Chinese, and others, have successfully exploited and are exploiting the short time horizon of private enterprise compared to soverign governments. Show an American executive next quarter's bonus and he/she will gladly and willingly betray the long term economic interest of the larger society.
Our economy is not an infinite "pool of benefit" that can simultaneously uplift the poor starving third worlders, increase entitlements to our own citizens, and guarantee peace and order worldwide. The natural benevolence of liberals has been exploited to an extent which is hurting Americans.
1. Advanced degree holders are the only people that have seen wage growth over the past decade (adjusted for inflation, obviously). 2. The 25th percentile earner with an advanced degree saw no wage growth over the past decade. 3. Manufacturing has been gutted in terms of wages, probably due to massive job loss. Health services, state/local government, gained the most. 4. Healthcare and Education have realized 75% of all wage gains within the US economy over the past 10 years. That is absolutely mindboggling. 5. College cost has increased massively in relation to undergraduate wages (which makes sense considering the previous 4 points).
---- 6. Some of the graphs don't seem internally consistent. Wage growth has been virtually non-existent, but I think benefit growth (primarily in health care costs) has grown.
Sidenote:
It's amazing how mainstream news has become so ridiculously primitive. Blogging *is* the news now. Massive reams of data are released by the government each year that up until now it was fairly hard to get your hands on easily. Blogging lives on data - and it can be checked easily. Have others reached the general conclusions I have? The mainstream media is so bankrupt on both the left and right I don't refer to it for anything.
