Whether an accident or intentional, losing a young life just doesn't make sense to me. I have known far too many young kids lost to dumb mistakes. It never gets easier.

As some of you know, I help run a non-profit youth sports assocation called WYAA (Westland Youth Athletic Association). On Sunday, we lost a beautiful 11 year old boy to something called the "pass out" game or the choke out game or whatever else it is called. Essentially, it is when you choke yourself out (or have someone else do it) and then wake up with a rush.
I have known this boy for quite a few years through both basketball and football. I have coached him and watched him grow up, at least a little bit. Heck, I even took the picture (the football picture in the story) with my photography company.
What makes this story even worse is that the family can't afford the funeral. They're asking for donations and we set up a memorial fund through WYAA to take donations to help the family.
Please, I know that many of you don't have young children anymore but perhaps one day when you have grandchildren you can warn them about this. I had heard of this before, but I never really thought about it because it wasn't really what my friends or I did. I'm posting this just so that everyone knows about this- I certainly know I was in the dark so I think some others might be too.
I'm just in shock and have been for the past few days. It's been kind of a blur. My dad and I bought a huge print out of that football picture to donate to the family for the funeral and we (the rest of the board and I) have been hastily trying to drum up money for the past few days just to try to help out this family.
