since we know longer have $$$$, and a very tired military, and worn equipment, I'd let China, Japan, and S Korea worry about NK. Look at the map. What is our interest in NK and its surrounds?

But you can not be an empire without behaving like an empire.wink.gif

On a more serious note, I think one of America's greatest diplomatic mistakes of the 20th Century is that she has mistaken China's nationalist movement as a communist one. We are still paying for that mistake.

I am very surprised how little our leadership understand the Chinese character even after all these years. It may have a lot to do with how we pick our leaders, and about us.

That's good for everyone.

Apparently they decided the South Koreans bombarding empty ocean did not constitute an actual threat.

The North Koreans have  offered to allow a team inside their territory to evaluate possible remains from the Korean War.

I think North Korea just blinked.

I have said this before and I will say it again. The only and I mean only way to deal with North Korea is to stop all aid, stop all transactions, and stop any and all communication with that country. The only way to stop them is for them to implode and their society to collapse. China will do absolutely nothing to help and there is no chance that North Korea will change its behavior for the better.

Valid points.

But if we wait on their nukes , that is trouble.

The N.Korean populace is too well indoctrinated to rebel.

Does anyone have information on N. Korean dissidents?

I think we are dealing with a Hilter not a
Khrushchev.

There are elements of racism in the N. Korean world view.

Is there likely to be a softening of attitude later? IMHO no.

Personally, I will be spending the weekend praying that cooler heads will prevail. We're stuck in a staring contest with a mad man, and I don't think we intend to blink.

Scary, and getting the people in my office a little nervous...

Whack N.Korea before or after it has deliverable nukes?

"Meet the new boss, same as the old boss"

I know my preference. If history has taught us anything it is that early action saves more lives than later action.
