busdriver--The picture was taken about three years ago. Trust me when I say I've doubled in size since then! So sad. ... As for pmrlcomm, he lives somewhere in the vicinity of 80 miles from me. I've offered many times over the years to drive up and beat him senseless over something or another. He recently countered that we meet halfway.  biggrin

I'm sure the journalism was what he was referring to then, Hindoo. But you are very pretty and thin in your picture, though you do look rather sad--so that could be what he meant, too. Trust me, we ALL have those extra pounds to lose, especially after eating all that chocolate cake and drinking all that wine over the holidays!

Time for a second serving!!

Don't worry, busdriver. Pmrlcomm has heaped abuse on my humble head for as long as I have known him. I'm used to it. ... That said, I AM a horse lover. My husband and I are both involved in horse racing, journalistically speaking. Hot to trot? Not so much. I'd have to lose a few pounds before that could be applied to me. So sad.

Are you saying Hindoo is a horse lover, or "hot to trot"?

Now think carely before you get yourself in trouble!

Sounds right up Hindoo's alley or should I say stable?

I'm drinking a red blend that a friend recommended, very tasty. About $11/bottle (more than I usually pay, but worth it). It's called 14 hands, "Too Hot to Trot". Yes, there is a horse on the bottle.

I also have expensive tastes in cabs, Cartera ... but I'll freakin' drink anything short of motor oil when the mood hits. Sigh.  hmm

Cartera--I question your taste in wine. Everyone knows cabernets and chardonnays RULE!

I like dark beer too and at one point, the only beer I really drank was a black and tan. I loved the Guinness in Ireland but haven't had much here.

I drink Yeungling with crabs.

I also prefer wine - Pinot Noir, Shiraz and Malbec.

When I drink white, I like the spiciness of Guwurztraminer.

Cost-wise, I'm on the same page as busdriver. ... Mad Hatter, while my favorite thing to do while sipping wine is to engage in belligerent cyber-discussions, I will also read, eat, and argue with my husband at such times.

It is on my list. Mine happens to be Stripes. I was a teenager at the right time for that one. Mel Brooks' History of the World ranks up there as well.

Oddly enough I've never seen The Big Leboswki. It wasn't until just a couple of months ago it was brought to my attention that it was the adult beverage of choice there. I'll have to watch it sometime.

Guinness.

I like dark beer. My good friend brews his own beer and whenever I come home for break, he'll brew an extra dark batch for me :). His beer is better than anything I've had from a store (can't exactly drink in a bar yet...).

I hate wine. People keep telling me that it will eventually grow on me. I'm not holding my breath.

Is The Big Lebowski your favorite movie??  wink

My favorite beer is Yuengling out of Pottsville, PA; America's Oldest Brewery and still family owned.  It's a great beer; I am always surprised at how popular it is outside of PA.

For me, beer is merely expedient. If I do drink it, I drink either a black & tan (if the Guiness is on tap, only) or Bass by itself.

I prefer wine to beer. A good Pinot or Zin and, like Bullet, I am a sucker for a good Malbec. Also, it has becoe quite easy to find a good and interesting Shiraz at a very good price (fwiw, Shiraz is originally from the city of Shiraz in Iran).

even more, I love a good burbon. American Eagle is my current favorite. Though Woodford Reserve is always a good choice, as is Knob Creek. And if you must, Makers Mark...particularly good for a Manhattan.

I am a wine girl too, if I had to give a favorite it would be a white bordeux. Any Coppola brand is a sure fire hit too!

For reds, Bullet likes Malbec.

I also agree 2 buck chuck is a good wine.  You would never guess it costs 2 bucks.  Cupcake is good also, and Fish Eye is good for their price too.

Manny's (Washington state microbrew) is an imminently tasty beer, though something you can't get everywhere. Kind of cloudy, rather dark, no aftertaste, very delicious.

As far as wines, I like 2 red blends. Menage a trois (blend of 3 wines, about $9) that you can get at Costco for $7.99, and Our Daily Red (organic blend, about $8). I like these better than wines that are 10 times the cost. Though I don't think I've ever had a $90 bottle of wine. Not too sweet, not that yucky aftertaste you get with a Cabernet. Slightly tangy, all too drinkable.

We know.  We know!

But what KIND of wine do you like?  Red or White?  Are you a Chardonnay girl, or do you prefer Shiraz?  Merlot?  Favorite brand?  What do you like to do when drinking wine, besides posting on discussion boards? giggle.gif

we are blessed in Oregon to have oats, hops, wheat, and BEER.
In August, the hops are being harvested, its hot, and nothing finer than a crafted Oregon BEER.

Everyday drinking, I am partial to Henry's. Its a premium local craft beer along the lines of Sam Adams but at a bud price. One of the earliest craft beers.

Tried a local beer at Friday's sampling and it was $5.50/pint bottle. Very heavy. Pretty good. Didn't get its name since its out of my price range. Its out of Eugene in UO duck country.   Ducks to beat Auburn.

To paraphrase Ben Franklin:

"Beer is proof that God loves us".

What is your favorite new brew? My husband tried a new one last night that he said was amazing - it had chocolate and cinnamon elements in it.  Sounds kind of strange to me, but he enjoyed it.

It was: Telegraph Winter Brew.  He also enjoys the Sam Adams Winter Classics.
