I still can't even figure out how having lobbyists and unelected individuals writing bills isn't illegal.

Yes.  Hence the problem.

They wrote it.  Our legislators let them.

Who is surprised with the unintended consequences?  Not me.  You let lawyers and lobbyists "help" formulate a bill that is so wide-reaching and then have our representatives tell us it is good for us.  Only they aren't completely aware of what's in this bill because it's so long and complicated, requiring even more government to manage and regulate it.

> Much better to have paid staff members, lobbyists and lawyers tell you what is in the bill.

I thought that the latter two categories wrote the bills.

Reading is so passe and takes so much time.  Much better to have paid staff members, lobbyists and lawyers tell you what is in the bill.

Pelosi, when asked about the tax cut bill, said that she had to read it to see what was in it.

Her approach towards due diligence in legislation is questionable at best.

A House Democrat who worked on the health care law said the situation had resulted from “an honest mistake in drafting,” and he added, “No one intended to take away any of the drug discounts that children’s hospitals already had.”

I guess someone should have read the bill before voting on it. What do you think Madame Speaker?
